I try to look at the less obvious of what others see, because everyone else will shoot the obvious, obviously.

Of course. I thought that was obvious.

This was just a slight bit of movement as I touched the shutter release.

Yeah that one file just above the exe is the english version. You should be able to click on that and get it in english. There may be another exe within the file so you can download the english version.
Yes there is.

I'm not sure how I got it work, but it now has English. I unzipped the file and then clicked on the exe file, chose English, and that did it.

If I can get clear skies, I'll give it a try.

I was experimenting with HDR just now, and I was surprised at much the camera can move when on the tripod when I press the shutter button. I don't mean rocking all over the place, but it is noticeable. That's where the wireless remote comes in handy.

Here's an idea for someone to work on. I use my cameras on the tripod often enough that I leave the mounting plates attached to them. Someone should come up with a a large baseplate containing several tripod mounts (receptacles) to accept these mounting plates.

Rather than rest the camera at an angle on the mounting plate, it could snap securely into a tripod mount. Several of these mounts could be attached to a board, so the cameras could be sitting securely, ready to be removed and snapped onto a tripod.

I think if you only wanted the newest to come out you would have to work for Canon...
But was using for over 25 years a Canon T50, not fancy but I had lenses and what I needed and I loved that camera. Then came digital.
I don't care what anyone says I like a camera that is not like holding a credit card or a deck of cards I want something I can hold on to.
Some of those little things you can't even take a shot without your fingers and thumbs being on several buttons...
I hate to keep bringing this up but it isn't just that I am older I just like to put the camera up to my eye and see what I am shooting.
Just keep it. It looks alike a great camera to me.

Exactly! When it gets to the point that the camera is too small for a viewfinder, and you have to read the Owner's Manual to see where to position your fingers to keep them out of the way, something is wrong.

I find that I can hold a heavier camera much steadier. Holding a P&S out in front of me to see the LCD in the bright sun is just asking for a shaky image.

Very good article.

Yes it is. The only comment I have to add is regarding "lens quality". The discrepancy (they would appear to disagree) probably stems from the use of different cameras: dpreview used a Canon and Rockwell uses Nikons. Rockwell's point is that on a FF Nikon DSLR, one can use older "film camera" lenses which were designed for 35mm coverage which is more accurately replicated with FF sensors.

(Rockwell has also done tests using an older 28-80 3.5 nikkor zoom which is a plastic "consumer" lens producing very high quality results and can be found used for little $s)

For all the "fun factor" in Rockwell's life, I can see how it could get to be a drag. So much testing and writing and dealing with dealers to get equipment to borrow. I'm sure he's looking forward to the new D4 to test.

Just curious. If I wanted to get a telescope (and I don't - so why am I asking, right?) what would you suggest for something that would accept a DSLR for astronomy photos?

why would anyone want a full frame camera.

I would recommend googling "full frame vs crop" and reading the Ken Rockwell article. It's too lengthy to quote and the visuals explain it well.

Excellent article.

Why do so many spend $1200-$1500 on a camera, want to add a high end lens, then treat it like a p&s by leaving it in AUTO mode, and using free software to process the images, or worse, take the memory card to the corner store, then complain about the results? While CS5 is overkill, no free program, or one size fits all machine can come close to matching the results that can be achieved in programs such as Elements.

Free is good. I can make some quick corrections using Irfanview in less time than it takes Photoshop to load.

For a quick adjustment, free programs can be fine, depending.

BUY THE NIKON SB-400 AND FORGET THE REST. THE D40 IS A GREAT CAMERA MADE EVEN BETTER WITH THE SB-400 WHICH WILL THEN WORK ON JUST ABOUT ANY OTHER NIKON.

Go to the Nikon site and see the differences between their flashes. I have the SB-600, and I love it.

I've just ordered my new Canon 5D Mark II, upgrading from what I thought was a fine cropped sensor camera, Canon's 40D. I had watched photographers swear by their 30D's for years, so I bet on the 40D having the same kind of longevity as a tool of choice. Now, I'm trying to sell my 40D that is in mint condition with a genuine Canon grip, all the boxes, software, cables, etc., and I can't give it away. Why did this model crash and burn? The large LCD screen, the 6+ FPS Burst would seem to endear this model to the same level photographer as the 30D. Can anybody enlighten me?

They are getting good bids on ebay - $300 and up.

If you can, print a copy and a simple cardboard frame. Great memory for your friend! Great for visitors to admire and comment about!
Pat

I see you added more images!!

I just wanted to show you Jasper.... this man got many good photos of them.. but the contest is the challenge now as the owner wants to show a lot of hands all sizes and colors on him. " interacting" just not sure how to show that.. maybe have everyone on one side of him? Take the photo from above?

I'm not crazy about lots of hands on him, and Jasper might not be either. I think that would look too posed and artificial.

A close-up of Jasper and a senior face-to-face might be better.

You have to understand, though, I am not an alpaca expert. I thought alpacas were sweaters.

What time/direction will the viewing be good? I'm surrounded by trees, and my only view is straight up. I'll probably have to drive somewhere to get a good view. It just might be cold. Brrr!
