Why did the 40D seem to crash and burn?

I've just ordered my new Canon 5D Mark II, upgrading from what I thought was a fine cropped sensor camera, Canon's 40D. I had watched photographers swear by their 30D's for years, so I bet on the 40D having the same kind of longevity as a tool of choice. Now, I'm trying to sell my 40D that is in mint condition with a genuine Canon grip, all the boxes, software, cables, etc., and I can't give it away. Why did this model crash and burn? The large LCD screen, the 6+ FPS Burst would seem to endear this model to the same level photographer as the 30D. Can anybody enlighten me?

It was out dated, fast. Keep it. Sometimes, it's easier to carry two rigs with different lenses. You don't lose time changing the lens.
Sporting events, wildlife, etc.
Backup camera.....It can save you, out in the field.

I would love to buy a 40D as a back up, but cant find a decent body for a reasonable price, the folks here abouts wont part wityh their beloved 40D's and what I see on ebay are 500 bucks. for God knows what condition.
My 50D and 60D wear different glass, but I would love to have a 3rd body for a "grab and go" rig with an 28-200 on it

The 40D was a great camera. Still is.
I'd keep it. It's worth more to you as a great condition camera that still provides excellent IQ, then the amount of money you would get for it.
Use it as a second body.
Camera bodies don't hold their 'value' all that great anyway, not like quality glass.
You don't want to know what I paid fo the original 1D some years back.

I'm selling my Canon 40D DSLR with genuine Canon grip and Canon ESF 18-135mm IS lens. All three items are an absolute 9.8 condition with no blemishes or wear. Less than 7k clicks. I've got all the software disks, transfer cables, the boxes, the charger, the neck strap and manuals. I'll throw in the hand strap (pictured) as well as the David D. Busch manual that helps you take advantage of all the great features this camera has: 6.5 FPS Burst Shooting, Live View®, RAW capabilities, Remote Shooting from a laptop, etc. I've got six (6) batteries that will go with it, as well. The Canon firmware is up-to-date. This is an excellent pro-sumer camera for the photographer that's ready for an upgrade.

I've switched to a full frame camera and the EFS lens nor the Canon grip is not compatible with it. The "cropped" APS-C, that's in the 40D, allows for a wider variety of EF and EFS lenses. My price is firm and I'm not interested in any trades.

I'm asking $750 for everything. B&H wanted to give me $550.

Well, you've made me feel a little better about having bought the 40D initially. I don't know if I can afford to feed a second body. It would be a luxury to have one. I'd rather have the money to put toward some L glass in the future. Thanks for the quick responses and the morale boost.

How much are you asking for the camera and the grip?

Why did the 40D dissappear? For me it was because of a faster fps shoot and higher good quality ISO. Also, face it be it computers, phones or cameras, anything with electronics in it will age rapidly.

I'm asking $750. But honestly, I'd rather sell it locally so I don't have to go thru the PayPal thing.

I think if you only wanted the newest to come out you would have to work for Canon...
But was using for over 25 years a Canon T50, not fancy but I had lenses and what I needed and I loved that camera. Then came digital.
I don't care what anyone says I like a camera that is not like holding a credit card or a deck of cards I want something I can hold on to.
Some of those little things you can't even take a shot without your fingers and thumbs being on several buttons...
I hate to keep bringing this up but it isn't just that I am older I just like to put the camera up to my eye and see what I am shooting.
Just keep it. It looks alike a great camera to me.

Exactly! When it gets to the point that the camera is too small for a viewfinder, and you have to read the Owner's Manual to see where to position your fingers to keep them out of the way, something is wrong.

I find that I can hold a heavier camera much steadier. Holding a P&S out in front of me to see the LCD in the bright sun is just asking for a shaky image.

I agree the live View on my 40D never gets used for the same reason
