Diving can be really tough to shoot. You did a great job. Compared to most aquatic centers the light looks pretty good with the large glass windows. I’ve been in many requiring up to 20000 ISO.

Well let me add this. I love the R5. I’ve been singing its praises for for 2 years now because of its superior focusing capabilities. BUT….. I own two bodies and both bodies have been in the shop for build-quality issues. One had the flash mount come loose, and both have had the Multi-Controller dial simply fall off the camera. The first time warranty covered the repairs, but the second time cost $495 to fix. Outrageous to spend nearly $4000 on a camera only to have things fall off without any drops or bangs. I’ve owned all 4 5D cameras without any build quality issues. I’m really disappointed with Canon right now.

I have the tendency to tilt the camera counter clockwise if not paying attention for some reason. I’m always correcting in LR. It’s a bad habit I can’t seem to overcome 😩

Using a flash meter and understanding studio light ratios was essential in the film days since you had to wait a week to get color film processed, or a couple hours if self processing. Polaroid was useful as an instant check but not nearly as accurate as today’s digital review screens. Everything you need to know and/or adjust is right there on screen. My Minolta 4 has mostly been in a drawer for a dozen years. The few times I’ve used it I ended up tweaking the exposures with a few test shots anyway. So I finally stopped using it altogether.

I must add an addendum to my previous post. I just shot an indoor track meet and got 2500 images on two batteries in a grip with 1/3 battery life to spare. I did no live view shooting and kept the view screen off most of the time. Obviously it’s live view shooting that drains the life out of mirrorless batteries which I do a lot of with my wedding work.

Actually 350-400 per battery is about right for the weddings and sports I shoot. I use a combination of Canon and off-brand batteries costing between 30-$80. I usually bring 6 batteries to a job to be safe. At first it seemed ridiculous to need so many batteries, but I’ve gotten used to it. I use the view screen for live view shooting quite often and chimp constantly, so extending battery life by turning off the view screen is not really practical for me. The camera is just so excellent in every other way, the battery life issue is a minor problem, easy to overcome.

Much better. Good light in the eyes, smooth skin, soft light. The whites of the eyes look a little over retouched to me however.

Moving subjects can be difficult. Two thing stand out for me. Your exposures are inconsistent. This could be corrected in post. Also your framing could improve by not cutting cropping into joints, and/or cutting off feet in near full length images.
