Aloha UHHs,

I was about to press the purchase button for the Canon R5. But, I got cold feet after reading some of the reviews they were experiencing on Canon's website. Rating for this camera looks like a C+. For those who owns the R5, are you currently having or had issues with the camera itself? Is there a concern that I should be aware of?
This purchase would have been my last upgrade from my Mark 5DII, and I'd be taking it on my upcoming international travel.

My second choice might be the R7.

The only problem with them I have is the huge MP count makes the pixels so small they are prone to motion blur if not at high SS or clamped down solid. I have the R7 and have problems with hand holding sometimes (I am 77 and no longer a human tripod.) I am considering an FF R body and I am looking at the ones in the 24MP range. I am favoring the R6 II at this point. When I don't move and get motion blur, I LOVE my R7.

For examples of great work with the R5, mostly with the RF 100-500L look at the work of Mike Blevins over on Face Book (I am prejudiced in his favor since he lives very close to my home town in Kentucky.

Easily best, most capable camera I've ever owned, that coming from all four stages of the 5D series, the original R, and R6. It is a huge upgrade from your 5Dii.

I have both the R5 and R7 and I thoroughly enjoy both cameras. I have not had any problems with either camera. Canon did initially have a few problems with the R5 overheating, but those issues have been resolved. I've shot several long videos with my R5 and it has not overheated at all. I didn't buy the R5 until after Canon fixed it's teething issues.

I have the Canon R5. I previously owned the Canon 5D Mark IV. The R5 is outstanding! I haven't had any issues at all.

Canon R5 body/lenses no issues in over two years.

The EOS R5 changed how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life.

Overheating while shooting 20+ minutes of 8K video. Maybe a specific use-case Canon should have resolved before the initial launch. Now resolved.

I've never met or heard of anyone disappointed with their EOS R5. Typically, the only negatives come for jealous owners of other camera brands.

Well let me add this. I love the R5. I’ve been singing its praises for for 2 years now because of its superior focusing capabilities. BUT….. I own two bodies and both bodies have been in the shop for build-quality issues. One had the flash mount come loose, and both have had the Multi-Controller dial simply fall off the camera. The first time warranty covered the repairs, but the second time cost $495 to fix. Outrageous to spend nearly $4000 on a camera only to have things fall off without any drops or bangs. I’ve owned all 4 5D cameras without any build quality issues. I’m really disappointed with Canon right now.

C+? I upgraded from a Nikon D500 to the R5 nearly 2 years ago, and have zero regrets. R5 is a superior camera in all respects. No problems of any kind. Note that a good number of complaints on Canon's website have to do with overheating (which has been fixed) or poor customer service. Ratings on B&H are 5-star and on Adorama 4.5 star, which are more believable..

I have the R5. I remember Paul saying with the Canon R5, you don't look back once you have it. And I certainly have not looked back. It's an amazing camera and I have no regrets making that purchase. Fran

I have the R5 and have had all 5D series with the exception of the 5D mk ii. I still have the 5D mk iv , which I use for landscape photography when it is cold outside in Canada (yes it gets cold around here) but otherwise the r5 outperforms the 5d mkiv in every respect. As for the sensitivity to movement do not forget the amazing stabilization. Also, the glass for the camera is excellent.

I love my R5, especially the bright image in the electronic viewfinder. I upgraded from the 5D SR. Image stabilization is flawless. It was great in the cathedrals in Spain and other low light situations.

I upgraded from a 5d4 and 7d2 mainly for the advanced focusing capabilities of the R5. Best move I’ve ever made. Love the R5 and I’m still using only EF lenses with the basic EF to RF adapter. Make the move; you won’t look back.
