I'm considering buying a new printer, and I've heard about the HP Instant Ink plan. From what I've heard, this is how it seems to work. If I print fifty pages a month, I pay $2,99, plus tax, and HP will send me both color and black cartridges at list price. When do they send that ink?

It seems that I would be paying list price plus a premium for HP ink. What am I missing here?

It seems that Canon now has a similar plan.

Jerry, any time a company comes up with a new plan, you can bet it's going to cost you more money.

Hi All...I recently saw an article about Back Button Focusing and I am intrigued. What does everyone think. Is it easier than manual focus in certain situations? Just curious. Rita

One of the advantages to BBF is that you have AF-C and AF-S in one button. If you press the button and let go the camera is in AF-S. That is, it focuses as long as the button is pressed. Remove your thumb and the camera is focused and remains on that one focus spot. For static subjects, that's all you have to do. But, if you are taking a photograph of a moving object such as a bird-in-flight, a football player, or a NASCAR racer, you need the continuous AF! It is very handy to just place your thumb on the button and fire away.

Your suggestions please on how to photograph a bright sunny day through a window while capturing the interior of the window wall showing correctly exposed furniture in the foreground. The idea is to show the outside landscape view from inside the house.

I am shooting a D850, Nikkor 24-70 and tried with a SB 800 to fill-flash the interior. Mixed results.

What say you?

The D850 will shoot in-camera HDR. I believe it shoots two shots and combines in-camera. Set it to shoot -3EV and +3EV. That should be enough.

Or, you can set it to Continuous High and shoot 5 images at -2 and +2EV for each shot, then combine in Lightroom. (I use Affinity Photo.)

It is a surprise to you that there is a internal batterie????? Cameras have and always had internal batteries, that hasn't changed in a hundred years!

Actually, there are lots of cameras that don't have batteries. I have had several.

Please correct me if I'm wrong. My understanding is that if I mount a 100 mm DX lens on my DX camera (D7200) it will give me an angle of view equal to that of a 150mm lens because of the 1.5 crop factor. My question is this. If I now mount a 100mm FX lens on the same DX camera, will I still get a 150mm angle of view? In other words, does the dx/fx designation on a lens make a difference in the angle of view or is it just the size of the sensor that controls this. I'm sorry if this has already been answered but I couldn't find it in the search. Thank you in advance of your answer/answers

Rick

The angle of view will change because the image will be wider with an FX lens on an FX body.

I think you went a long way around to do something very simple. In Affinity and some other programs, all you need to do is select the Inpainting brush and paint over the objects you want to remove. There's no layer involved. Too easy.

Greetings
I need your valuable opinions. I want to buy an on camera flash unit for my Nikon camera. It doesn't have a built in pop up flash. Normally I don't use flash but I thought I should have one if needed. I see Neewer have inexpensive TTL units.
Is Neewer a reliable brand?
Thank you

Whatever brand you decide on make sure it can do High-Speed Sync. I have the Yongnuo 685, but Godox is really good, too.

Skin tones look natural and the "whites" look white. I think the OP did a great job.

Is anyone else having problem with the Z50 backfocusing when using the FTZ adapter and, for example, the Tamron 18-300mm. Lens works fine on the D500.

It could be the lack of connections on the camera. Nikon Z50 has eleven electrical contacts whereas the Tamron only has 8.

Years ago I met a gentleman at Yosemite at the Tunnel View. I don't recall what I had, probably a Leica or a Nikon but he had some sort of well designed contraption for lack of a better word that used a small camera that was positioned to take single exposures of tiny parts of the scene. I THINK he needed to manually take one picture and then the next for up to around 20 photos. At a later date he would merge all of the 20 pictures for one ultra sharp photograph. Not to over explain but basically he filled in 1/20th of the scene with each photograph. He told me he went around the country to take these photos that were ultra sharp and then sold them to companies.

This was maybe 15 years ago or more. I relate the story hoping that someone else would recall such a person/camera usage and fill in some blanks to go along with the posting by the OP.

Lighting is everything if we achieve the right exposure for it.

My idea of "right" exposure has changed over the years. I used to get Professional Photographer magazine and for the longest time the images on the cover seemed under exposed. If I shot the cover and checked the histogram, the exposure would be two to three stops underexposed.

The take away, for me, is that one should expose to the right on the histogram but print to suit the mood of the image. Does that make sense?

I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to B&W but this is my attempt. Any suggestions are welcome.

The B and W version looks good to me. The only advice I would give is to do an adjustment layer that I believe is called HSL. The idea is to be able to adjust all colors, red green, blue, cyan, yellow, magenta. That way any one color can be adjusted to suit yourself. It gives you ultimate control of the tonal values in a B and W image.

I recently upgraded from the Nikon D3400 to the Z7 and love the new features. However the Z7 does not have a pop up flash which can be a drawback. I own the SB-700 flash but a small fill flash would be more convenient when out and about. The SB-700 is a bit bulky to carry around. Has anyone found a small flash that can be easily put in a pocket for just such times?

Altura Photo flash for Nikon is an ideal flash. Only 4.5 inches tall when pointed straight at the subject. Has iTTL, manual, S1, S2 modes. It also comes with a little white diffusion cap. It has the flash to subject distance on the LCD screen depending if you are at 1/1, 1/2, 1/4, etc. The flash head rotates 90 degrees from horizontal and can be rotated 180 degrees toward the rear. I have started using it with my Nikon Z50 and I love it. I don't recall how much I paid for it, but they are not expensive at all.

You also have flash compensation in iTTL mode. I often shoot in -1 or -2 EV with iTTL.
