I had a reaction after the first Pfizer shot and none after the second. Probably should get both if the problem is ever to get under control

Why is outrageous that they’d like to get paid for something you’ve been using for years? I send and receive pictures on Dropbox and consider the monthly charge reasonable for the service. If you don’t, then take your “Business” elsewhere. I also receive pictures on We Transfer and Google Drive.

If you don’t want to deal with all the issues you mentioned then just get a phone with a decent camera and with the push of one button you’ll be taking better pictures than with your high school camera

This is a good argument for buying from B&H or KEH. You can talk to a knowledgeable honest person on the phone first and they’ll take it back under very generous circumstances if it doesn’t work for you. To me that’s worth paying a little more if necessary.

Many overwhelming suggestions. To keep it simple ,why not practice with your own or a borrowed child. Probably need a flash. Figure out a reasonable background in the classroom. Pull the child out from the background to reduce shadows. If subjects are preschool then an assistant to direct them would be very helpful. If you want to use the exercise as an excuse to buy a printer, you might look at an Epsom PM 400 which makes excellent 4x6 and 5x7 prints. $400 price tag. Instead of buying and putting some miles on that , I would use Costco’s very good printing service at .37 for 4x6 prints. Bottom line: keep it simple, make it fun and plan on doing a better job the next year with lessons learned. If the atmosphere is hostile enough that you need liability insurance then you probably should not undertake the opportunity.

Good product. Stupid Company.
I have several Mag Mod products. The first I bought was the dome which is a blatant knock off of the Gary Fong dome but much easier to use at about the same price as I recall. The Mag Mod produces very soft light and I am glad to have it. My second purchase was the set of 7 standard gels for $30. I recently lost the 1/4 cto gel and with difficulty contacted the company to get a replacement which I was willing to pay for. I just didn't want to spend $30 for another whole set. The company said they couldn't help me with just one gel. One would think that to keep a customer happy, they would have either broken up a set and sent me the 50 cent piece of plastic with their compliments or perhaps sent me a whole set, but no.
As to the price: most people on this forum undoubtedly own hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of quality gear which gives them pleasure. If you think you can significantly improve your images by spending $80 or so, why not? Did you buy a point and shoot because it's cheaper than a DSLR?
Recommendation: Buy the Mag Mod that you're interested in from B and H. Test it thoroughly for a week or two. If not impressed, take advantage of B and H's inspired return policy which is intended to attract and retain quality customers.

Do yourself and your granddaughter a favor and get her an iPhone 10. The telling part of your description was that she didn't use your camera much on her trip. The iPhone 10 takes great pictures for its intended purpose. She will use it many times a day and will be able to share images with her friends with the press of a button or two.. We of the older set need to realize that most of the younger set just want to record what's going on in their lives and easily share it with their friends. They are not interested in creating art to sit on a table or hang on a wall. They don't want to have to take a card out off a camera and insert it into computer to share a picture. She will love the iPhone because she understands it and knows it will do what SHE wants. You'll enjoy getting family pictures from her often.

I agree with others that the 3rd pic is great!
I shoot a lot of racing sailboats and have found that unless it's really overcast, the following settings really help: ISO 800, f8 aperture priority, spot focus and spot meter. The ISO ensures that the speed will be at least 1/1000sec. The f8 ensures that the image will be within a depth of field envelope that will result in focus. The spot focus ensures that you are getting the intended target and not some random nearby boat etc. The spot meter very importantly ensures that the boat, jet ski, whatever that is the main subject will be properly exposed and not influenced by a lot of water or sky or sail mass. I have found that those settings get me very close and shooting RAW and processing in LR lets me tweak it even closer if necessary. I hope these ideas will give you the basis for some experimentation which you can then tailor to your specific situation.

A great advantage of Canon printers is that they have U.S. based (Virginia) free technical support. I have always found their people to be polite and helpful and they answer the phone in a reasonable time.

I did that cruise many years ago on a Navy destroyer. The river is absolutely beautiful. Plan on spending a lot of time outdoors enjoying it.

The baseball players are probably a little closer than the bears and whales in Alaska. It's too short. Won't work.
