Use GIMP it is free open source software, all you need is there.

They don't have a monopoly. There are scores of good pp software out there.

Hmm.... odd that I can't find anything else online about this. There was a price increase for the EU, but it was more like 15%. If they really intend to double the monthly cost, I am out. I'll just buy Lightroom standalone.

Gee, does GIMP provide a digital asset management system? I have not looked at GIMP for quite some time? Does it use SQL like Lightroom does?

Well I gave in and have been using Creative Cloud Photo for nearly 2 years, but kept my Corel PSP X8.
Well today I got a "survey" about Plan X and Plan Y.
Plan X Lightroom cross platform, on line storage and a "portfolio" on line feature for $9.99 a month.
Plan Y Lightroom Plan X + Photo Shop for $19.99 a month.

Looks like I may be dumping CC, using my standalone LR 6 and Corel PSP + Corel After Shot if they go through with this plan to change things during the next 12 months as mentioned in the survey. I really like LR and have been getting used to PS. But not $20 a month or $240 a year. I will concentrate on my Corel products and get used to them.

Them raising the price was one of the main things many of us were worried about. Well, these new "plans" are just that, a price doubling to keep using LR and PS.

And there I was just beginning to think that my normal pessimistic attitude was pleasantly wrong in this case!

We pessimists have an advantage, if things go well we get a nice surprise, if they go wrong we were expecting it and don't get crushed about it. Just pissed.
Well I gave in and have been using Creative Cloud ... (show quote)

Good analysis. I had not heard about more changes. But then again that might be why I still use Ps CS6 from a hard copy DVD-ROM. I paid the student rate once. So far I've come across one feature I'd like to have that is in Ps CC and not CS6. It will take a lifetime to master Photoshop anyway. Like yourself, I do photography not graphic design. Bad Adobe

Sorry if this was said before, I didn't want to go through 7 pages of responses.

First, this comes up every so often, and people get all up in arms and say they are going to switch..... Did anyone ever think that this could be one of those times where someone in marketing for another supplier is spending their marketing $$ to get such a response. Nothing shows that it is coming from Adobe.

For those that don't believe that anyone would stoop to such a level. My cousin did this for a living for several years. The company he works for actually used this kind of tactic to make "X" company look bad. He saw nothing wrong with it. We're not close.... I thought it was just dirty. It's basically the same as fake news stories if you think about it.

Now, on the off chance that "this time" it is for real, those of us that do photography as a business, won't have an issue paying it. I am surprised they haven't risen the price yet, but would be shocked if they did it by double at once. A few bucks a year, and I doubt many would even blink. They really aren't that stupid to alienate 80% of their business, to keep the 20% who actually NEED the program.

Not sure WHY anyone would be happy to go back to the old scheme of buy it, then upgrade it every year or so, and repay for the upgraded package - makes more sense to me to just subscribe monthly and always be using the latest and greatest with all the bells and whistles.

Subscription or stand alone - you never own it.... you rent it...(licensed for use) just a different payment method, and with the 1 time payment you then are on the hook for future upgrades (UPDATES are free for a limited time until a new version, then they get you again).

Survey's are meaning less, unless the decision by corporate dictates a price increase at some point.

Me, I complete surveys only when it comes with a dollar in the envelope ;)

I can't image using an old version of PS, that is not or will not be supported very productive. What about PS Elements? It has enough power for most of us and you can buy it outright. On One has a Raw processor and lots of capability. Many more choices than before. I am actually surprised that Adobe hasn't raised subscription prices before now. Nothing stays the same.

For the software I use on a daily basis I would always tend to upgrade automatically whenever new versions come out. You get stung for upgrade fees, and my gut feel is that I spend the same or less subscribing to the Adobe software. I pay $8 a month for LR and PS... there ARE deals to be had if you know where to look

Care to share where to look? I've been paying annually for years at $120/year. A bargain, but I hate leaving money on the table if there is a better deal. (legal, but better deal)

Years ago Adobe offered space for a website to share our photos because we were Adobe users. Several years ago they took that away... If Adobe says the sky is blue I'd look out the window before I accepted what they said...

Yes, sorry, of course! Lol

I bought a Photoshop/Lightroom course from CreativeLive and there was a link to subscribe for $8 and change on there. You will have to dig around in their various course offerings to find it, and it is not terribly prominent. But if I remember correctly you didn't even have to actually buy the course to use the link
