Thanks for posting this, Robert. My birthday is approaching and I was toying with the idea of giving up on CS6 and doing the $10/month for PS and LR. Screw that now. I'll think of some photo accessory I need, that runs about $240 or less and go for that.

I feel for the folks who bought into the subscription and now have to bite the big one.

Bob, the "big one" was when we paid $900+ for LR and PS bundle, then another $200/year for upgrades. Glad we survived that!

Exactly. People who've been gnashing their teeth about this for 4 years are simply bad at math.

Well I gave in and have been using Creative Cloud Photo for nearly 2 years, but kept my Corel PSP X8.
Well today I got a "survey" about Plan X and Plan Y.
Plan X Lightroom cross platform, on line storage and a "portfolio" on line feature for $9.99 a month.
Plan Y Lightroom Plan X + Photo Shop for $19.99 a month.

Looks like I may be dumping CC, using my standalone LR 6 and Corel PSP + Corel After Shot if they go through with this plan to change things during the next 12 months as mentioned in the survey. I really like LR and have been getting used to PS. But not $20 a month or $240 a year. I will concentrate on my Corel products and get used to them.

Them raising the price was one of the main things many of us were worried about. Well, these new "plans" are just that, a price doubling to keep using LR and PS.

And there I was just beginning to think that my normal pessimistic attitude was pleasantly wrong in this case!

We pessimists have an advantage, if things go well we get a nice surprise, if they go wrong we were expecting it and don't get crushed about it. Just pissed.
Well I gave in and have been using Creative Cloud ... (show quote)

You are not a pessimist, you are in fact, a REALIST!!

I have zero interest in online storage. I only want LR and PS and for $9.99 I feel it's worth it. However, if I have to pay double to get those two I will be looking for alternatives also.

Ditto !!!!!!!

In the survey I told them I was not interested for two reasons, 1. one TB of storage is not nearly enough, and 2. I have no use for Lightroom and would just as soon have only CC2017.

I am an not a professional and certainly not a techie. I use an old version of PS (12) and did not upgrade for the reasons you have encountered above. I use my ordinary file system (Win 10) to manage my photos and back up to a 5TB HD. This "raise prices on the hostages" attitude is why I don't subscribe to online versions of MS office or other software, but use old versions (at least for as long as I can). I have found similar "abuse" of customers with, e.g., XM Sirius radio where they agreed on the phone for one price and then dinged my credit card for a higher price. Now I insist on paper invoices. Sorry if this sounds like a rant. It probably is.

I have LR 5 and 6 on disk. A download of their free dng converter. 3 editions of PSE on disk and 4 or 5 old editions of Corel's PSP. And one old copy of Corel Draw that has a built in photo editor that can be run in a virtual copy of an old windows if needed. Just have to get one of my daughter's computer geek friends to set it up for me, or dig out the old disks and install it on the old Pentium II in the garage.

Why would you do that!? Sounds like you have a pretty decent machine already, if you feel you need to run an older version of windows why not just do a virtual machine or duel boot instead? I really don't think you would have to go to that extreme though. If you finally decide to quit the subscription service maybe you could try Affinity Photo they have a version for windows now. I use it when I want to do some serious pixel editing and I"m able to open my photo for editing from Lightroom 6.10 to affinity just like Photoshop. Affinity is only $49.00 and it's yours, does 16 bit color depth editing and you can save in 16 bit in almost any format you want. Affinity is also working on other applications similar to Adobe but without subscription service balonga! At least so far in addition to that Affinity Photo is much more powerful than Photoshop Elements and less expensive to boot!

I am so sorry they ever went the subscription rout, but it must be working for them or they wouldn't be considering expanding it. But it will be without me.

I'm with you brother. Had the same suspicions, now becoming reality. They lull you into complacency with low introductory offers (remember when Lightroom was $79?) and then hit you with a "zinger" once you are hooked.
Unfortunately I tried Corel PSP V.8 trial, but every time I tried to start it, the program "Failed to start" (no s..t!) After the third attempt at reloading it I gave up. Yes, I can run LR and Photoshop as will as Corel Video studio just fine. I know from forums it is a Video card issue, but the only help seems to be replacing my card. No thanks. So I have some thinking to do.

I usually help around 3-4 people move away from Adobe subscriptions every year. About 2/3 of them end up going to Adobe PS Elements, and the other 1/3 to either Corel PaintShop Pro or Serif Affinity.

What I generally see is a lot of people that just aren't aware of any alternatives and just pay the $9.99 a month. If you're a Pro -- then no problem you can expense it. But if you are a hobbyist or an enthusiast -- there is absolutely no need to pay $9.99 a month. What I usually do is ask the person to show me what they do with PS/LR, and then for most of them I show them that everything they do with PS/LR can be done with Adobe PS Elements or PaintShop Pro (Corel AfterShot Pro if you're more of an LR user).

Most of the people I talk to go to PS Elements because they are already familiar with Adobe PS, and they thank me for helping me save some money.

The ones that move to Corel PaintShop Pro or Serif Affinity are usually people that don't have a lot of experience with Adobe products -- so there is a minimal re-learning cost.

So yes -- if photography is your profession -- go for the monthly CC subscription -- you can expense it. However, if you are a hobbyist or enthusiast I suggest you take a look at exactly what you do or what you need, and for many Elements or PSP will easily fit the bill, and you'll save a nice chunk of change.

I use PaintShop Pro and have never looked back -- and when Adobe raises the cost of their subscriptions -- won't affect me in the slightest. I'll just be helping more people move over to Adobe PS Elements, PaintShop Pro, Affinity, and other really good alternatives.

I'm a bit of an expert in what's called "Auto Renewal" where you get a customer on a credit card and automatic renewal. The major advantage of this marketing approach is that customer are less price sensitive and it's easier to raise price. So I've always known what they are up to. For awhile, I'll put up with price increases because they are adding features to Photoshop that I'm using a lot.
