Wouldn't bother me, that's why there is camera gear insurance

I disagree. Insurance is only great if you don't have to use it. Having said that, I would NOT be without it. It's a love-hate thing. :-)

This a GOOD reason to NEVER put your camera atop your car before getting in, and while talking on your cell phone. The lens did not survive either. The only things salvaged were the strap, the hot-shoe cover, the battery and the memory card. I'll keep it just in the outside possibility that the shutter and/or sensor are still usable.

Messi is "lucky to play alongside Iniesta!" :-) Oh... you dropped your camera. Hopefully, you weren't heading to an FCB game when this happened. Always love watching them play.

Homeowners insurance is great for major claims. a few small claims will make you somewhat uninsurable. Not to mention you probably have a deductible that is higher than the cost of the camera. Always used your homeowners insurance wisely.

This is why I don't have a cell phone.

That's why I clip my car keys to my belt loop.

Here's the story for your wife. You made the mistake of buying a cheap third party battery. It overheated and exploded inside the camera. Then you can stress how lucky you were not to be holding it at the time. Think of all the sympathy you'll get from her.

All kidding aside, sorry to see this happen. That would have really made me ill.

I did that once with a large coffee and the driver behind me followed me for miles giving me the finger. Homeowners insurance did not cover the coffee but pretty sure they will do something for you. Good Luck

Was it his coffee? Some people get too upset over nothing.

No! He didn't say that, he said "now you're a D-89."

Well I can imagine how you feel. I set a portable GPS unit on the lip of the trunk. Close the trunk, and it wouldn't shut. I gave it an extra hard close, and then found why it wouldn't close. I had to use English, as I don't know Spanish.

do check with ins. I dropped one once and got full coverage because I was told it would be more expensive to fix than buy a new one

I'd have a qualified repair center look at it. What have you got lose?

Good point. If you look on eBay, you will see broken DSLRs up for auction "for parts." I'd contact Rick Riggins. He might want it for parts if he can't repair it.

I was going to mention Rick. The parts might be steep but not as much as a new body. With a reasonable labor rate as I'm sure Rick would charge, you might come out OK. Of course that can't be determined just from the one photo. I've managed to repair damaged flex circuits by running jumpers years ago but it's a lot more difficult these days. But if repair is uneconomical it would make a good conservation piece on a bookshelf. If nothing else sell it on ebay for parts only no refund. I've bought many cameras that way and was able to repair other cameras with the parts or repair the camera and sell it for a profit.
