This a GOOD reason to NEVER put your camera atop your car before getting in, and while talking on your cell phone. The lens did not survive either. The only things salvaged were the strap, the hot-shoe cover, the battery and the memory card. I'll keep it just in the outside possibility that the shutter and/or sensor are still usable.

would hhave never happened if it was a canon. i dropped my canon off an 8' ladder and the only thing that broke was the strap.lol just kidding; having a little fun at your expense. i really can empathize with you and i am sorry that happen.

All cameras are accident prone. It's not the owner's fault.

I can see you kept to the rule of thirds in the photo. One third damaged and two thirds undamaged. Sorry This happened to you. Sorry about the joke, couldn't resist. If it ever happens to me feel free to let me have it.
Best of luck and have a safe trip.

Thanks to all for your kind replies and sympathies, no matter how undeserved I am of them.

I had planned to lend the camera to my niece in Tegucigalpa, but it was actually a bit much for a beginner. I'll probably get her a D3100 or something like that so lenses can be shared. If not, I'll just lend her my D60 when I arrive on Wednesday. She wants to learn Photoshop but I've been telling her she has to learn to think beyond her doofus cell phone camera.

Perfect excuse to start researching a new camera.

Tell people you were embedded with
the troops in Afghanistan and a sniper
hit your camera.
Ha ha.

What settings did you use? Oops, sorry, seems to be one of those questions in almost every post.

Sorry for your loss. Hope you get a nice replacement

Hahaha.....yeah, that's her. She's 18 now and is enamored with with the idea of being enamored, like all teenage girls.

BTW, being seen with an "Aussie guy" would be a MAJOR status symbol in Tegucigalpa!
