I did something similar with my first camera. If I would have been a day younger I would have cried.

This a GOOD reason to NEVER put your camera atop your car before getting in, and while talking on your cell phone. The lens did not survive either. The only things salvaged were the strap, the hot-shoe cover, the battery and the memory card. I'll keep it just in the outside possibility that the shutter and/or sensor are still usable.

It may not be as bad as it looks. A new top cover which includes the flash head. As long as there is no serious damage to the flex circuit. I'd have a qualified repair center look at it. What have you got lose?

I think I posted this once on a stupid things we have done thread, but here goes again. My friend and I were in Yellowstone and stopped to take photos. I thought I put my brand new Canon in the back seat, but I couldn't see it so I stopped about a half mile down the road and there it was on top of my car. Fortunately, the carrier ridges kept it from falling off. I was lucky. When we got back I told a long time friend about it and he said that he always puts stuff on the hood in front of the windshield so he can see it when he gets in to drive. I have been doing that every since. Hopefully this will save some of you hogs from losing stuff thanks to my friend Bob!

Maybe you should stick with the camera you used to shoot this camera. Nice shot! Seriously, sorry to hear your sad story.

Look around on the net for a glass or plexiglass dome. Might be under lab equipment or some such. I'd get a nice wood base, mount the camera to it, perhaps with a quarter twenty, place the glass dome over it and keep it on my desk or as a display in your home...what a great conversation piece.......and an instrument of education.......

My stomach just dropped. OUCH.

My husband left his cell phone on the bumper of a forklift, it of course fell off and the forklift drove over his IPhone. Phone still works, just the screen and the back are crazy like crazy. He's not so patiently waiting for March 1st, he'll be able to upgrade then.

Good point. If you look on eBay, you will see broken DSLRs up for auction "for parts." I'd contact Rick Riggins. He might want it for parts if he can't repair it.
