British cars were a common sight on Australian roads for 50 years from the 1920s to the early 1970s. During the 1950s British cars outsold all other makes in Australia.

Jaguars have always been a common sight on Australian roads although the later models since the early 2000's are not as popular as their earlier cousins.

The engine under the hood (sorry, bonnet) of the XKE is pure jewelry!

Jaguar always made them pretty. I really like the B&W treatment on the first one

Well Thorny Devil, your reference to the Jaguar SS prompted me to dig around in my personal Attic. I have attached an old B&W photo of an original SS, the Swallow Sidecar of yesteryear, this model was known as the Swallow Launch. My crude attempt at colourizing was done with a kit from my local chemist's shop, some time in the early '50's.
I am able to date the photo fairly accurately because my father sold the motorbike in 1955 when I was 14. It was a 1927 Royal Enfield 570cc side valve. He traded it for a brand new 1955 BSA M21.
My father had modified the bodywork on the Launch to accommodate a Dickey seat, to accommodate me. This infuriated me because my view was more or less restricted to the back of my brother's head, or the back chain on the bike. I solved this problem by graduating, later in life, to a 1963 Royal Enfield Interceptor, with a Swallow Jet 80 attached. My 2nd photo is me on the Enfield and the 3rd is me on my son's Ural in New Zealand, 3yrs ago.
My father had passed away in 1959, so I had traded in his BSA for a Triumph, then later the new Interceptor. I guess I am a bit like a recovering alcoholic, I don't ride any more but deep down inside, I am still a biker.
Thanks for the memory-jogger Thorny Devil, I really miss my Dad and his old bike.

The E-Type Jags are certainly very desirable and easy on the eye Jimmy. Thanks for the thumbs up.
