Science rules. So glad to see all of you taking the vaccine. It is an incredible accomplishment in such a short time. They used a modification of the DNA and not a live virus. Ground breaking science. We can only hope the majority of our society gets this vaccine. Herd immunity is our goal and a path back to our past way of life .Thanks so much for your participation.. Remember it will take two weeks after your last shot to reach full efficacy. Stay safe.

ODD! Corona viruses are RNA viruses. No DNA!

My brother in NJ said the second shot caused his shoulder to be more sore, and for longer, than the first. Other than that no adverse effects.
I'm going for my second shot in a few weeks. I'll certainly take more soreness, or the flu-like symptoms that some have reported rather than the full effects of Covid-19. I don't know why anyone would stop at the first short because some have a day, or two, of sickness?

I've been hearing a lot online and locally about people being very sick for a day or two after the second Covid shot (either kind). Many people experience nothing more serious than a sore arm, though. Our local school was closed for a few days because so many teachers had bad reactions to their second shot.

Have any of you gotten sick after the second one? I get my second on March 3. A friend got an appointment at a site two hours away, and then she got one locally. She's gong to try to go there with her husband and have him get the shot. She called and asked about it, and they said it's worth a try. Any opinions on that?

Concerning managing the side effects: As mentioned in these posts, side effects similar to a flu-like illness occur primarily with the second injection. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) should handle these fairly well, by at least reducing their severity. Acetaminophen is not immunosuppressive and is not anti-inflammatory and thus should not affect the desired immune response needed for the vaccine to work. Aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents may reduce the side effects, but I cannot find any statement concerning whether these agents may actually reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine, but theoretically because they work by reducing inflammation, they may be reducing the body's response to the vaccine to some degree. So, I would think, until somebody studies this specifically, I would avoid aspirin and NSAIDs like ibuprofen to manage those side effects.

I agree with your comments on Tylenol and the vaccine 100%. There is some data on NSAIDs (not Tylenol) decreasing the immune response to viruses like COVID-19, for example:
https://jvi.asm.org/content/early/2021/01/14/JVI.00014-21

However it is only about a two fold decrease, so if someone needs to take a NSAID for some reason, it probably is okay (presumably there were people in the clinical trials on NSAIDs though don't know of this info in any of the trials). And Tylenol, which as you noted is not a NSAID, should be fine. I actually take it every day and plan to take it on Monday before my second shot for my osteoarthritis like I normally do.

I think somewhere along the way some non-medical folks wanted to get more people vaccinated so the numbers would look better. To that end they claimed the first dose was so good that the second dose could be postponed. Of course that wasn't really true and AFAIK we are giving the second doses on time.

Dr Fauci does not want to skip the second dose because of the variants already being out there. Brilliant epidemiologist. Essentially it is a numbers game and I personally don't think that is the case anymore in the US. I think it has to do with which way can we save more lives. By taking your second dose and giving it to the millions of at risk people that will be left unprotected and will die because of the supply problem. Just one dose can significantly affect the morbidity if you get the virus. Therefore saving more lives. It is a serious debate in the medical community. These are clinical studies by scientists. I don't think we will have a Cuomo like scandal in the major population. It is always probable but I don't think it would be done on a grand scale.

Got the first shot on a Friday, arm quite sore on Saturday, extreme fatigue on Sunday. No more problems for first shot. Second shot 4 Fridays later with just a sore arm for a day or so.

As a retired physician, I really would suggest you use Tylenol instead.

There have been 17,000,000 vaccinations given in the UK some were Pfizer by the vast majority were the Oxford /AstraZenica vaccine manufactured in England without any reported side effects, mine included.
I hope this allays any problems and stops people from delaying having the jab.

I had the Pfizer vaccine. First shot: nothing. Second shot: 26 hours later I was wracked by chills for about 8 hours then washed out for the next 24 hours - I told myself: "well, that is my immune system kicking in to high gear - yippee!" My wife had the Moderna vaccine and had overwhelming fatigue for a day or two starting about 24 hours after the second shot. My nurse had a similar experience after her second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

I can tell you one thing - it is really nice being able to go to the grocery store without thinking that it might kill me to do so! Not to mention that I see patients all day long...

Some of the vaccination centers have been fairly flexible with "walk-on" patients - worse to have left-over vaccine at the end of the day. It is really a good feeling to know that you are vaccinated, so worth any effort to get it done.

Agree--stay away from anti inflammatory meds that might mute the immune response. Covid patients have been treated with dexamethasone that shuts down the out of control immune response that causes severe problems and intubations.

My wife got her second Moderna vaccine Wednesday, I got mine yesterday. My wife had some aches and chills overnight after the first one, I only had a little soreness where I got the shot, about like any other shot. My wife had almost nothing after the second (which is the one that normally gives you the strongest reaction). However, I am having upper body aches and have very little energy today. It's supposed to only last about 24 hours and is nothing I can't handle. I'm doing some couch time today. Much better than getting COVID.

I had no problems with the first one had gone to Walgreens, tried to book second one that it shows to do put in my zip code told me I was out of state or jurisdiction, my time was almost up was speaking to my physical therapist she worked on several locations up was finally able to get someone at Walgreens and she made me an appointment in time for second dose said when first appointments were made there was a glitch but is now fixed, only problem I had with the second dose was next morning my blood pressure was high, but few hours later back to normal I slept for two days no headaches or nausea, guess sleeping took care of that lol
