I have owned SLRs Minolta and Nixon since 1961. I just purchased my first mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z6. It is a beautiful camera. While I still have my Nikon D800. The Z6 is my go to camera for now.

I rented the Z6 for a week with the kit 24-70 lens and FTZ adapter. I liked it a great deal, although I thought the autofocus wasn’t the best, I have a D750. The adapter worked great except for an older macro 105mm that I had to manual focus. Focus peaking worked great although I don’t think you can get a magnified view that some mirrorless cameras have. I am also considering the Sony A7iii, but to keep using my Nikon glass I will need to plunge into world of adapters, Nikon lens appear to be difficult to use with adapters if you want to keep the use autofocus.
For that kind of money, I get two memory card slots. DSLR, or Mirrorless, there are enough great two card slot cameras around that I don't need to pay through the nose for a new one card slot camera just because it is the latest gadget on the street.

I have been shooting “mirrorless” M43 for about 10 years. I love the format and it has been my go-to travel adventure camera kit. Last year I bought an OM-D EM-5 MII to replace my aging Panasonic, and the OM-D has quickly become my everyday carrying camera as well as my go-to all around camera. I don’t use my DSLR much these days.
[quote=Bill_de]I've had the Z6 for a while with the 24-70 F/4 and recently added the 14-30 F/4. It's a really nice camera for walking around. The 70-200 will complete the kit for me when it's released. It should all fit in an easy to grab/carry messenger bag.
Bill - those are some beautiful images with great color and detail! How do they compare with those from your other Nikons?
I was tempted when the eye detection was announced but want to hear results first. Most of my shots are of people and while face detection works OK, if the eye detection work well it could be a great tool for my use.
I have a Z6 and a D800. Love the Z6. I used it to photograph my granddaughters ballet recital last weekend and it performed great. No autofocus issues at all

The quality of the images taken are quite good. Missed a number of opportunities waiting for the camera to come out of sleep mode. Not good for birds in flight or race cars at speed. AF is a bit iffy. Prefer my D500 for those situations. Seems to be more of a deliberative camera where the full frame image quality is useful rather than a carry along camera. I prefer my X-T1 for that. It's always in my kit bag but the jury is still out as to where it might fit in.

Right you are. I was looking into his future. Personally, I would have asked the question before I bought the camera.
Nope, not for me. I prefer the benefits of a DSLR.

Not only do I love my Z6..I just purchased a Peak Design 5L to see how the Z6+24-70 and 14-30 will carry around on a trip to Savannah. In the past I kept my D810 on with my Black Rapid and changed lenses at my car. My TT Speed Freak just too big to carry around during the day. I then purchased a TT lens case (on belt) to have the extra lens. All of this was more than I wanted to carry in that manner. Hence Z6 purchase. Now, it looks like the 5L will work out just fine to carry what I need during the day and lighten my load.
