One hour today with the Z6, FTZ, AF-s 300mm F/4.0 D and ...
... subjects I'm used to shooting
Excellent results, Bill. It appears typical of the quality you normally display.
What do you think? Worth the change?
Beautiful set. Happy with that setup?

Thanks Dave, Richard, and NMGal!
I didn't change, just added the Z6. At this point my D850 will be primary. It was heavy overcast with drizzle. A couple of time the Z just couldn't lock focus. I would have to get close manually before the AF would lock in. Another issue is that the camera automatically goes to sleep to conserve the battery, and for birds is too slow to start up. These little birds do not sit still. The viewfinder (which is what I was using) will dim to warn you it is about to sleep, so you can touch the shutter or other button to keep it going. That drains the battery. I let it sleep some and kept it awake if waiting for a bird to turn it's head.
I had Alexa (Amazon Echo) set a timer for one hour. In that hour I took 105 shots. All shots were saved in large RAW and Fine JPG. I started with a fully charged battery which went down to 62%.
For me it was an hour well spent. The old lens did well and the in body VR was a pleasure for some hand held shots.

It has its place. When I took it to Assateague to shoot the ponies and scenery it was a pleasure. With the kit 24-70 it was easy to carry all day. But those ponies move slower than turtles.

....at the high standards we are used to seeing from you! These are beautiful Bill, with your usual tack sharp clarity. I'm interested in your thoughts re why your chose the Z6 over the Z7. This combo is clearly doing good work for you!
Excellent shots, Bill, and useful information.

Thanks Pat. I feel lucky when the birds don't land on the same perch all the time. I think the wind today had something to do with it.
