I would tell you to move but I see you are already in Canada.

Thanks for staying home.

Enough snowflakes in the USA already.

Planning on night photography then bring a tripod. If not leave it home, 99.9% of places will not allow you to set it up inside.

Rome is tight and a wide angle lens is a good idea. Inside a lot of the venues the 50mm f1.4 is a good idea, they can be on the dark side.

Finally a lens with some reach has a lot of merit. I like my Sigma 18-300mm as a walk around.

Now with all that said, while in Rome you will do a ton of walking...... think of the weight, uneven streets and sidewalks and the masses also visiting the city. It can get crowded. Make it as simple as possible and remember it's a trip to enjoy don't make getting a bunch of photos work! Keeping it simple and light will make it more fun.

Enjoy and don't fret not having the right lens for the perfect shot. I have lived here for almost 4 years and still when done walking around think gee I should have used (insert lens here) instead. What was I thinking? :)

I retired to Rome 4 years ago from New York. I find it safer here than NY. As for pickpockets avoid the 64 bus. On the metro just pay attention.

A wide lens is key. My walk around l use an 18-300. Plan on not using a flash in most places.

My second choice is the 10-17mm. Rome can be tight and you can only back up so far๐Ÿ˜

You can walk to the majority of the most popular sights and thus weight becomes a factor.

Enjoy your trip.....

Usually have either an 8, 16 or 32gb card in use. Size in most cases do not matter as I have been in the habit from years gone by that after two hours of shooting I insert a new card. My thinking is I can basically only lose 2 hours of 'stuff' if the card craps out.

Only had one card fail over the years but this method while kind of extreme works for me.

Did at one time. Stopped after finding my photos showing up on other sites being "borrowed" without permission.

Deleted everything.

Have not used in several years.

Have used Red River for years now. Only paper I will use.

Excellent results.

Printer ICMs available from them for all their paper and most printers.

I still drool over new equipment...... have a thing about fast lenses.

Now that being said.... I am retired, wife is retired and we do not even worry or think about a credit score.

We do use a credit card for web purchases but only when the card can be paid within 24 hours of the purchase. Cash is king. Debt brings stress, worry and who needs it.

Been free of any cc debt for years and it is a nice way to live.

Downside..... you often have to wait to make a purchase...... found that often times waiting will also prove I really do not need that I thought was important two months ago. Now if it is not broke, the old still performs well skip the purchase and just keep building a slush fund for the day you really do need a replacement for whatever comes up.

Pentax user starting with film and then moved to digital. Finally retired the film rigs a few years back and have owned the K10d, K100d, K7 which were all gifted away over time. Now only the K20, K5 and K3 are in the wheeled bag hoping Santa gets the hint and a K1 shows up sometime soon.

As for lenses a Sigma, two Tamron and 7 Pentax. My favorite two pieces of Pentax glass the 31mm and the 60-250mm.

I like the bang for the buck, built solid and great for what I shoot. Never did listen to the folks in the club that swore by the competition and would say I needed to get some real gear.

I have made a pretty good living shooting only with Pentax. Now I guess you can call me semi-retired as I still shoot just about every day and take a freelance gig about once a month.

Kind of sitting here chuckling knowing a 2018 calendar is going to print for a local company who hands out over 3000 of them during the holidays with every picture coming from nothing but Pentax!
