Memory Cards - What Size and How Many?
Ok to all, there will be no fighting in the sandbox over this question. It is just curiosity only.
How many and what size memory cards do you use and carry with you?
It depends on if I am traveling more cards because I do not re-format until they have been backed up on my computer.
Local outings I can get more than I need on a D5 with a 128Gb XQD as well as on my D850.

I never use anything larger than a 32 and I carry about a dozen with me.
Shooting with my D-800, I have tried a number of combinations but have decided that for me, 32GB cards work well for a days shooting. One reason I have not used the 64 and 128 is that I get concerned about losing so much data should one go bad. I'd rather have several cards (pretty easy to carry) and change them, if required. I can certainly see that if one shoots a lot of continuous sets, you might very well need a larger card set.

I put a few hours of shooting on a card then switch to another. A friend
of mine put hundreds of images made over four or five days on a 128
and the card crapped out. Images were unrecoverable. I'm sure that
is something that doesn't happen often, however..........You decide what
you're comfortable with.
It depends.
Nowdays:
For just short shoots, 2 cards (16gb) per camera body (one card is a back up)
For long vacations - say 6 weeks where I shoot ~ 100 images per day @ 18 mb each, enough to cover the full vacation - probably 6 (16gb) cards or preferably 12 (8gb) cards .
I don't take a laptop on long vacations.
I use 32GB cards, they will hold almost 1300 RAW files.
I keep one in each of my two bodies and carry two spares.

16 or 32 GB - no bigger (a 32 will hold roughly 1,000 raw 22 MP images)
Four 8s and two 16s in a waterproof case (wallet), and one 4 for playing around.
(Yea, they're old, but they work fine.)
Always copy photos to a hard drive as soon as possible, store in the cloud as well as soon as possible.
I have a 64gb in each slot in my K-1 and a 32gb in each slot on the K-3
I use 32Gb card and rarely carry extra. That's good for 800 RAW+JPG images.
I have a 64GB in my 80D, a 32GB in my T5. My wife has a 32GB in her T6i. I keep a couple of 8GB for backups.
I do my best not to remove my cards. I d/l to my computer every night and only twice have a filled my 32 GB card in my T5. The most common cause of card failure is mechanical failure. That comes from removing / inserting it from the camera and card reader and in the physical handling. Nor is there any reason to re-format the card after every use.

I agree about the potential mechanical failure caused by removing and reinserting cards, particularly with CF cards where bent pins are a hazard, but I have also seen mini/micro USB connectors fail well before their rated life, and those cost even more to replace because they’re typically soldered to the main board. WiFi is probably the best answer if you have the capability and the time to wait for the transfer.
