It’s not the equipment, it’s the photographer. Remind yourself that what you want is rarely the same as what you need. Best of all, no one will care what camera you used if the images turn out well.

I just looked at some of your post's and am surprised. I would LOVE to have some of the equipment you use. I'm retired with a limited income too. I saved for 2 months to get a D200 for $100 and I have good credit

If you are single - get married.
To quote Mel Brooks - "You can marry more money in fifteen minutes than you can earn in a lifetime."

After 10 years or so 'the must have camera' has been superceded and costs very little (compared). It will still work and will still give stunning images.....That is what it was sold to do 'when it was the best of its kind'

look at auctions and pawnbrokers....Ask what old stock your local 'one man camera shop' has 'gathering dust'.
Chances are you will buy a 'goodun'.

Hobbies should never replace food on the table or shelter....hopefully theu can make you money (don't count on it though)

have fun looking and asking

I wouldn't ever advocate giving up a dream. You obviously have the talent and eye. That D850 will probably be affordable in a few years. Put away a little bit each month and before long you can get a D850 and meanwhile have the pleasure of holding on to a dream. Good picture taking

I have good credit but decided a long time ago that credit is not the best way to make big purchases. Back when we didn't have two nickels to scratch together when we were raising the kids we got deep into credit card debt, so we ended up making all of our purchases by cash. Once we got out that's all we do....pay by cash. If there's something you'd really like, set up a separate savings account and every month put some money into it. You can do it online. When you have enough, you can get what you'd like. Why pay all that interest when it could go into savings?

BTW....I've decided against the D850. I have the money, but also being retired, I'm concerned about future needs as well.

Credit Karma. It is free and they also give you helpful tips to improve your score. Fixed income is tough to change your debt to income ratio (which is a big factor in determining your creditworthiness, just don't let that determine your 'worth'.) I finally have a decent credit score, however, if I want to keep it, actually using my credit card (yes, 1) is out of the question.
