Oh cool! I’m actually OTP - flowery branch - Lake Lanier area! What hart of town are you in?

HA!!! I am also a neighbor. I live on the lake in the Buford area.

What else does your friend need? I have a good bit of Canon equipment and may be willing to part with some if he needs any of my "extra" items... A lot of my equipment is still film related ( 4 bodies, etc) although it is all current EF mounts and such - but I may have some filters and other things. Let me know if I can help you with your project. Thanks ....

The only thing that I might recommend is to open up the lens to make the depth of field more shallow. That way the background would blur and not be quite so distracting. The monuments are great and need to be emphasized over the background. Good exposure otherwise.

AAA can be your friend. I am older and can say that even if you have GPS - the maps can be so much more informative than some GPS units. Maps can be studied for nearby areas and attractions that GPS units may not have available.
SO much to see in the Western NC area and also Eastern TN - Please do not forget the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Try to visit that area during the week as it can get very crowded on the weekends.

Have fun and bring lots of film!!! LOL Seriously make sure you bring batteries and chargers for all of your goodies that eat electricity...

I would like to know who the moron was who gave permission to complete this travesty... Aren't things such as this project usually reviewed and at least a drawing to show "approximately" what the end result might look like. ??? Some one needs to lose their job or position within this organization. Pure idiocy if you ask me... what a horrible example of a basic statue and Christian concept.......

A great example of why I like film. The film example here looks to be a bit sharper and has more clarity and contrast. Just better exposure to enjoy.
I am not a computer geek and do not really enjoy spending hours staring at a computer screen doing "stuff" to make a picture better. I like taking good to great pictures and have the lab print them. Just me and what I like. NOT trying to start a fight with all of you geeks out there.

Cast Iron in the dishwasher?????

I am from the South and we NEVER put cast iron in the dishwasher. Actually, we almost never use soap and water. They stay seasoned and are virtually perfect (if used properly) by just wiping them out and maybe just a little scrub with water - no soap. A little heat to dry them out and some small amount of oil and they stay in great shape with no need for seasoning. The original "non-stick" pan when used properly. I have maybe as many as a dozen and almost all of them are older than me - 60. Most have been passed down from family. Several generations.

Oh, Grumpy, if it were only that easy. They have pitted us, the American sheeple, against each other. They (politicians) have a vested interest in the divisiveness they have created. Everybody thinks the other guys politico is to blame, not his own, so we go nowhere.
I used to think term limits were anathema to democracy. If the voters want to send their representative back to DC for decades, they should have the right to do so.

Now in my old age, I ain't so sure.

Unfortunately, you are so absolutely right. Yes, the answer is simple, but "they" have made it almost impossible to change anything.

The old saying: "Divide and conquer" has never been more true; as this administration is doing an outstanding job of creating so many divisions in our once great nation.

Here's my comment:
If a Canadian can see so clearly how we are screwing ourselves up, why can't our politicians see it?

They know exactly what they are doing, they just don't care about us or what we think. They only want to tell enough lies to get re-elected for another term. Power, power, power is all they crave.

Re-elect NOBODY. Kick out all of the bums and put new folks in there. That will be the only way to get rid of the corruption and "favoritism" that is the major problem in DC right now. Too many of those "criminals" owe too many of the others, too many "favors." ALL of them need to go.......

I am just being curious, but I have often wondered why there seems to be such a popular belief that landscape photos should be made using a wide-angle lens. I have read recommendations on this and other forums for using lenses as short as 10 mm.

Is this just some "newbie" fixation, or is there a substantive rationale for the belief?

I shoot many landscapes, from seashore to mountains, wetlands, etc., but I rarely, if ever, use anything on my D700 shorter than 50 mm and frequently at 100 mm or beyond. To me, a wide-angle lens would make it more difficult to define a clear center of interest, would likely turn mountains into molehills and generally increase the difficulty in producing an interesting and compelling image.

Maybe some of the Forum experts can educate me as to why wide-angle lenses are so popular for landscapes.

Having read some of the comments on here over the past year or so, I agree. There have been many occasions when the good folks here have been very adamant that the only good landscapes can be done with wide angle lenses.
I wholeheartedly disagree. I have seen some beautiful photos done with 90mm or longer lenses. Some have been "stitched" together using several pictures taken in vertical (portrait) orientation at 90+mm focal length.
Keep up the good fight. "Landscape" photography can have different meanings based on the viewed "landscape." Details, can be lost and then the entire picture is less effective than it might have been if taken with a specific lens which would have conveyed the "feeling" that the photographer was trying to convey.
In other words, use the lens which best translates to the viewer, the feelings of the photographer. And the statement that is to be communicated via the picture.
