Blackfriars Priory School in Adelaide was forced to cover up a brand new statue after its unfortunate design of a kneeling boy and a saint caused a social media storm.

Upon arrival the three-dimensional statue was deemed by the executive to be potentially suggestive, he said.

As a consequence, the statue was immediately covered and a local sculptor has been commissioned to re-design it.

The school apologises for any concerns and publicity generated by this matter and is taking action to substantially alter the statue.

It not a boy kneeling it’s a man. However the impression is the same. A bad sculptor.

Where you get the idea that it's a man is anyone's guess.

I try my best not to think that everyone sees things the same way I see them, so would you please explain to me why you see the smaller figure as a man and not a boy? I would like to attemp to see the art work from your perspective. Also, what does the artist say about it, since he is alive. Thank you.

Only in the minds of those looking to see perversion in all things. . I would expect such a reacton from a group of Puritans but not the general public.

It sounds like the religious zealots are at work again with there narrow minded point of view?

My first thought on seeing this would not be a perverse thought - it would be: "that is not a very good sculpture". It is not even a life-like representation of how one might hand someone a small loaf of bread (and even the object which is supposed to be a loaf of bread is not life-like). And given all of the sad revelations of the past 10-20 years, if this is a contemporary statue, the sculptor is an idiot.

I work with and a blind sculptor and he could create a better work than this. Lazy vision. There is no sense of benevolence from the "giver" at all, let alone some kind of connection between the subjects. And, as has been mentioned, opens up all kinds of imagery from the sad history of the church over the decades. Unfortunate situation for the Priory.

The beggar appears older than the benefactor.

The position of the bread the saint is holding could have been better, that's for sure. Not only is it bad looking statue, the sculpture must have been brain dead. I don't know why they couldn't see that in the first place and refused to show it. The Catholic Church has no one to blame but themselves for the situation their in now.

It looks like a potato to me, not a loaf of bread. Maybe that's where the school had a problem with the sculpture, they paid for a loaf of bread, not a potato.
