I have over 300,000 image files in my Lightroom catalog. I only implemented LR in 2020. I do find LR much better for entering metadata than Bridge. I have digital files going back to 1994. I am not talking about when the original images were captured on film. I am talking about when the images were digitized. I would like to be able to use LR more efficiently to update metadata. Clearly I can only work on chunks of the images from time to time. I do not understand the use of many of the features in the Library module that can be used for adding metadata. For example, what does the "Sync Settings" button do for me? I do not understand the use of keyword sets in the panel on the right. In the Metadata menus are there reasons when to use copy metadata, sync metadata, and create metadata presets? What are the reasons for importing or exporting keywords?

Jim - There is a User Manual on the Web as well for LRC. It's a few yrs old but still 90 % accurate.

Love the ad! My Dad and my wife's Dad were both EK employees back in the 1950s-1970s. I worked closely with their HQ and Medical Imaging Divisions from the 1980s - 2015. Many of our siblings, Aunts, and Uncles were Kodakers too. I'll post some Kodak artifacts soon. Thanks for making me homesick. [ My wife has used a little EK Instamatic camera for 30+ years. It's held together by masking tape but, it's small, light, uncomplicated, and takes acceptable snaps when the auto-lens shield doesn't stick halfway open. She is finally starting to talk about replacing it and mentioned buying a new Kodak camera. Talk about brand loyalty! I will be sure she upgrades to a Sony or Canon. (Sorry Dad(s) and George!) ]

I'm trying to populate a Weebly Gallery page using links to either my Google or Flickr files. No luck but it seems as though it should work. Has anyone tried this. Is there a prerequisite setting that is required to get the two sites to shake hands? Thanks. Ideally, I want the smaller gallery page images to open to full-size when clicked and have the source pics be those in my Google or Flickr albums (vs. on my computer).

That Camera Club site was done in Weebly? It's great. Can you find out if there's a way to link your photos that are stored in Google Photo or Flickr to a Weebly Gallery? I would like to avoid having to locate the images on my computer if possible. The link function in Weebly Gallery is not working. I think there is a pre-requisite of some sort to get Weebly and Google Photo or FLICKR to shake hands.

I don't want to convert them without first seeing what is on them... seeing if it is worth it. I've tried to rent a projector. Even the "real" camera stores no longer have them. I've tried. These things have been out of the mainstream so long now.

The likely primary reason you cannot find a projector: We are moving/downsizing and discarding years of accumulated crap. My Dad's 1970 Kodak projector (8mm/Super 8mm) was headed to the trash can but I decided to keep a couple of momentos from it. I wanted the lens and the take-up reel which was stamped Eastman Kodak Co., Rochester, NY (My hometown and where our Dads both worked.). As I dismantled it any plastic pieces, including the film tensioner, literally crumbled at the slightest touch. All of the plasticizers had leached-out/dried up. I imagine this was the fate of many of these projectors. I recall that it used to get pretty hot after being on for an hour and that heat was probably a contributor to degrading the plastic components over time. That's why Dustin Hoffman was whispered to "Plastics!" in The Graduate. So if you do come by a projector - handle with care. - Steve

Hate to hear this news. I've had two expensive repairs because of my own fault. With one I got something in the camera body while changing lenses in the field damaging the shutter curtain and scratching the sensor. With the other one I had to throw on my brakes with the camera sitting on the back seat. The camera's monitor hit a metal part of the front seat shattering the monitor. And that was the same day that I scratched my eyeglasses lens by attempting to toss them into my cap but missed and they skidded across a rock. That was over an $800 outing because of my stupidity.

You bring up a point that I've been wondering about as I shop for my first DSLR or Mirrorless camera. (Formerly a PowerShot user.) What is the best practice for changing lenses in the field (aka, woods)? Do any of the camera configurations pose greater risk when changing lenses? What is the best practice for preventative maintenance cleaning (yearly)? Thanks, Steve

Thanks - I thought the locked condition might prevent that (my computer's card slot is dead). I can use my wife's computer. All good. Appreciate it. S.

Does anyone know a method to unlock an SD card that has had the little plastic tab broken off in the locked position? Almost all images are backed up but there are a few that I'd like to not lose. Thanks for any ideas. Steve

You sure they are "current"? Last I knew it had ended. I'll check out your heads up though. Would be great if it was still alive.
