This forum is Great! I'm finding it very useful and I've barely scratched the surface. I'm an almost 60 nature freak with a lust for anything geological. Big rock nerd. Collector of fossils (NY/MO/WI), antique geo and paleo books. For the past few years I've been trying to learn how to take un-horrible photos. I wear progressive bi-focals and tend to be impatient - 2 factors which have made that goal a slow progression. When I ventured into this new "hobby" I purposely bought a point and shoot Canon PowerShot SX20 IS. I knew how and where I was going to be using it and did not want to chance damaging an expensive rig. Now I'm approaching my need to upgrade to a real camera so finding this site came at an opportune time. The research that I've been doing over the past 2.5 yrs. involves taking macro and super-macro shots of rocks using polarizing filters on lights and lens. Also, sometimes of rocks submerged in distilled water using pol. fltrs.
