That's a really great shot of a predator bird. What camera, lens and settings did you use to do that?

A while ago I subscribed to Lightroom Classic and since then have done a considerable amount of study via on line tutorials to try to really get the hang of it, though its full capabilities are nothing short of amazing. I do understand that it works by leaving the original photograph untouched (unlike photoshop) but that with the develop module, all adjustments made to that image are subsequently stored in a database referred to as the lightroom catalogue.

When you decide to backup lightroom from within, it offers a backup option which backs up only the catalogue containing the adjustment data but not the actual photographs themselves.

So, is there a relatively simple, easy way to backup the actual photographs onto an external hard drive....I use an IMAC computer to run the lightroom program....Most of the tutorials I have looked at tend to focus on the catalogue backup rather than on the photographs themselves.

Thank You,

Paul B

A very good image of what is just an incredible bird. Such a great national emblem to have as it were. Somewhat more impressive than is our flightless kiwi here in NZ.

I was an international pilot up until 2019 when Covid and coincidentally age (65) stopped my flying career. As crew one often thought that we were amongst the most unsafe people on board the aircraft given the way we were so often treated, patted down, x-rayed etc. No trust whatsoever.

One of the worst airports used to be LAX where agents were unfriendly, unhelpful and incredibly rude. I was pleased to see however in the last three or four years that I went there a marked improvement so let credit be given when earned. Lets just hope that continues.

A very creative, well taken shot with a fair degree of lateral thinking involved. Well Done.

A great series of photos that would not be out of place in a National Geographic magazine. Well done.

Your photographs of the birds are really good. Right up there with the best.

I very much doubt that you will regret it. Its a great camera with an excellent autofocus system and so many of the latest features. Just put in the effort to get the best out of it that you can.

If money poses no object then I totally agree....buy the best there is and enjoy it. Like a car, if you can afford a Ferrari and want one then get it, but if its outside of your financial range then trim the budget to fit.

You can spend an awful lot of time procrastinating about buying such things when it comes down to a basic number of factors such as how much time you have to spend on the hobby, your level of expertise and most importantly really, your budget. If you're a high end professional making a living from photography then yes, pay a lot and get the best. But for most us keen amateurs perhaps a more middle of the road model will more than suffice.

I have the R6 after deciding that although an R5 would indeed be the Bees Knees, I just couldn't really justify the cost of it and all of the ancillaries that are needed on top such as expensive cards, more computer memory and so on. The R6 is great and I have not found the 20 MP to be an issue at all. I love the FV function and am still growing into the new technology that it presents.

Also remember that the longer you think about it then the current crop will also soon become somewhat outdated as even newer models come along and you are then forever chasing the tail. Horses for courses!!

I am interested to learn which of the many photo editing software systems that people may recommend.

One that was recommended as very good is the Adobe lightroom, but then there is one called classic and one called cc so all quite confusing though my research would say that the classic version is more versatile and comprehensive.

Personally I lean toward getting this package simply because of its capabilities and also that although subscription based, you at least always then have a constantly updated system without the need to pay for improvements and/or a new licence to use it.

But there are others as well so any thoughts/problems/recommendations would be appreciated.

Thank You

Paul.

As a Real Estate agent would say: Property For Sale, Home Handymen need only apply.

That is a striking shot. I too am interested as to whether the cloud formation was taken "as is" or perhaps with a time lapse mode incorporated. It looks great.

Great photos with the parent bird and the sibling. Those Eagles are so impressive, quite different to the National bird emblem that we have which is a kiwi.
