The first photo was taken with the Sony. I cannot attach a polarized filter to it. I'm not worried about detail. I just want to be able to get the blue of the sky out of the Sony, not always just washed out shots.

You didn't show both images. But, welcome to the new world of "computational" photography.

The iphone can "compute" what it thinks you want it to look like where a camera (any camera) can't. A similar argument goes on between the proponents of "straight out of camera" images and those that believe what comes out of the camera is raw material for post processing. Similar battles took place with film. There were those that thought Kodachrome slides were superior. Others shot negative color film so they could post process their prints.

The color of the sky depends on the location of the sun. Face one direction, and the sky will be deep blue. Turn a few degrees, and it will be washed out. Also, the camera doesn't always see the same color that we do. Did you do any processing this this picture?

I tried to process to bring out some blue in the sky (Luminar) but was unable to bring out any color.

Which mode are you shooting in? How is it set up? Sony's have extensive menu set ups, including creative style. If you have spot metering set up and the spot was in the tree line, would explain the over exposure. The Sony is a real camera and needs to be set up, it is not a phone camera with everything pre set for intense color and a lens with extensive depth of field.

I indicated Aperture Mode. Metering Mode was Multi.

Not happy with results. In general, washed-out skies, colors just not true. For example, shots yesterday while kayaking under a blue sky turned out as shown. Aperture Mode F8, Auto WB, Auto ISO, Exposure 0.0. Contrasted with photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which produced awesome color and clarity. This has been a problem I have had with this camera since purchasing it 6 months ago. To emphasize, the sky was, in reality, blue! Ideas??

There may come the day when every photographer will carry the latest in iPhone picture-taking technology.

I'm an amateur, taking pictures for the joy of capturing all the cool things that nature does, in the moment. I share with friends and relatives on social media. I have gone through a fair amount of money buying and selling mirrorless cameras and lenses and several bridge cameras (the Nikon P-1000 and the Sony RX10 iv, which was an amazing camera). I have settled on the Sony RX100 vii and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Both are small and are there when I need them. My iPhone pics get more "likes" than pics shot with the Sony! (I use Lightroom and Luminar for post-processing.) I would say that the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the best camera investment I have made for the way I do photography.

The state's slogan "Pure Michigan" is for a reason. We live in northern Wisconsin and often head to the UP. In fact, we made the round trip today. Along with endless opportunities for photographers, the clean air, lack of congestion, and the feeling of "wilderness" make for an exhilarating experience. All the spots mentioned are great; and there are places you will just stumble upon that will make you want to stay forever; well, maybe be out of there by winter ...

I'm an amateur hobbyist. Spent a lot of money buying and selling Nikon and Sony cameras/lenses that turned out to be not what worked for me. Finally I'm totally set and satisfied with the pocketable Sony RX100 VI, and I LOVE the RX10 IV. I surprise myself!

I've read that the main difference between the vi and the vii is somewhat better video capability on the vii. I love my vi; it should be available for less money than the new model.

Never thought about this before. But in high school and college, anything "math" was not a problem for me. I mastered the course, whatever it was, having no particular like or dislike for the discipline. Parents had me in piano lessons early in life; pursued a B.A. (elementary education) with a music minor, studying the pipe organ, loving every minute of the huge challenge of coordinating both feet with the many other things required to play the music of the masters, J.S. Bach, my fav. (I still play piano almost daily.) Late in life, in my 60s, along comes camera/photography. I also developed a curiosity about Photoshop, got basic instruction from a tutor, and picked up a few skills in graphic design, often thinking it was a bit like learning a keyboard instrument. There is a connection here ... a new thing for me to muse over.

I am a newbie. If I can learn the Sony menu, anyone can. I used a few online tutorials and was soon up and running.

I'm a hobbyist who has spent a lot of money getting to what suits me best; I have also lost a lot of money getting to what suits me best. When I realized that I did not like changing lenses, I sold my Sony a6000 with the few great lenses I had acquired. Following advice that I took from this site, I opted for the Sony RX100 vi. LOVE that camera! But I wanted more zoom, and with an interest in shooting the moon, I purchased the Nikon P1000. I got great views and shots of the moon, but I was not always happy with the quality of much of my other shooting. Enter the Sony RX10 iv, another camera that came to my attention on this site — truly a "honey." Another trade-in (bye-bye Nikon) and more $ loss, but I now have a Sony pair that does all I need to do and that doesn't leave me looking for something better. Feels good to feel that I have finally "arrived."

Yes, it is those early morning hours, when new snow lies 12" or more deep ... breathtaking. The pines, the river, the silence in the woods. I go out even it if is 0º F and lower ... and tell myself I am uber crazy. Will look at Fleet Farm. Going there soon. Hubby's favorite store – the man's mall!
