Hello all,

I'm off to Iceland in a few weeks. I was wondering from anyone who has gone in the past, what focal length they found most useful. I realize much has to do with your subject matter and style of photography, but in your opinion what's the widest and longest focal length actually needed for mostly landscapes. Let's not worry about puffins and whale watching, since I realize that's longer focal lengths, but I'm speaking mostly for landscapes.

I know I'm taking a 24-120. I'm likely taking a 20mm prime. I'd deciding between a 50mm prime or a 70-300.
I'm not sure I have room in the bag for both. I'm taking 2 camera bodies as well. I'm trying to keep the weight down somewhat.

thanks
Mike

The 24-120 is too heavy for me to carry around all day. As someone else suggested take your 20, 50, and 70-300 for the most range and your fastest f stops. For northern lights and waterfall landscape don't forget a tripod.
There is a hot dog stand open 24 hours at the inner harbor in Reykjavik when you need cheap eats, for Iceland,

Motorcycles are just targets for trucks anyway, I've never driven a motorcycle sober.

There you are good to go. It will work splendidly. Identifying old relatives and friends will be the hard part as will be naming each individual file. After my mother passed I received tons of pictures dating back to the early 1900s. I can only recognize my grandparents!

Hey Hoggers i am pretty much a casual shooter doing dog and people portraits along with anything I find interesting. I currently have a Nikon D7200 with Nikon 70-200 f/4 and a Sigma 17-50.I was looking for a ultra wide for landscapes. After reseaching all the ultra wides I found a Tokina 11-16 f2.8 AT-X Pro DX at MPB in "like new" condition for $119. I was pretty apprehensive about the low $119 price but went ahead and ordered it.The lens should be here in a couple days so I will see if it is any good. I can always send it back if I don't like it. I have used MPB a few times and was never disapointed. What do you guys think? Thanks for any comments.

Excellent lens for DX work. I have one from the time my D-90 was my primary camera.

This is a really nice hotel in downtown Richmond that does a nice job of decorating for the holidays.

Nicely handled tricky exposures, but, I am bothered by the tilted verticals in the overall lobby shots.
Classic architectural photography requires level cameras to properly render the geometry of the structure.

I have a new Zfc with a 24-200 full frame zoom. I have been keeping the polarizing filter on, however I wonder if there are times when it is better to not utilizie the polarizer. Pardon if this is a basic question; I am a serious amateur and still learning about mirrorless. My main topics are dinner parties, sunsets, and landscapes. Thanks.

I never keep a filter on a lens unless I have a specific effect/reason to use the filter. I prefer a hard lens shade to protect the front element.

In most camera reviews these days, the reviewer mentions the grip that the camera has - you know, that bulge that's provided for those who are right-handed. I see how the grip is handy, but it's a relatively new feature. I've had Nikons and other brands of film cameras that had no grip at all. I don't recall reviews saying that they were difficult to hold, and I never dropped a camera because it was "bulge-less."

Maybe someone can find the first camera that had the grip/bulge, but my thumb and fingers are able to hold onto most things without enhancements. I suspect part of the reason for the grip is to provide the manufacturer with room for internal components. The "grip" is an accidental bonus.

I just pulled a Nikon FM2 body with an MD12 motor drive from my museum case. The motor drive gives the assembly a nice grip.
I remember using Nikon F2 bodies with motors and 250 exposure backs and just using the film chambers as grips ! 🙃

Yes. When someone rage rants without providing context it makes me think the OP was too stupid to recognize a scam website was phishing him.

Hi friends...I am very drawn to nature and landscape photography and I'm realizing my lightweight travel tripod often is not up to the job. Can anyone make recommendations of a sturdy tripod that works for you? I know I'll add a ball head, but really all of this is pretty new to me
Thanks! Rita

Look at the Gitzo Studex tripods. Also try a pan/tilt head, I've never liked ball heads on tripods, ball heads flop too much for my use. I prefer pan/tilt heads or geared motion picture tripod heads.

Hello everyone.

My name is C. Q. I was referred to the site and wanted to know what licensing fee to charge for use of 10 to 15 images by a major film studio.

Thanks.

Check the ASMP website. They used to have pricing guidelines.

As I have been having some weird actions on the part of my Nikon D5600 I contacted Nikon about the situation and they suggested that I first update the firmware on the unit, which is 1.03 and they say it needs to be updated to the current 1.10.
I have no idea of what is involved in doing this so am asking for opinions as to whether I, a newby, should try to update or send the camera in to Nikon and let them update it. I called up the instructions and it appears that it is something requiring more experience than I have. Positive assistance would be appreciated, trolls take a holiday.

As others have said, go to Nikon's site and follow instructions. It's as simple as following a cookbook recipe and easier then putting Ikea furniture together.

I purchased a Canon R8 mirrorless body and have found a problem that I need help with. Is there a setting that will prevent touching the screen with my thumb while I have the camera up to my face using the view finder.
I was on an evening shoot, and later discovered that my thumb must have touched the screen in the lower right corner and changed the focus point. To correct this, I had to turn the “Touch Control / Standard” off and use the camara like a DSLR by focusing on the center focal point and then re-composed the shot. This is not the way this camera was designed to be used!

I know…Keep your thumb of the screen and you will not have this problem. Any other suggestions?

P.S. So far, I am really impressed with this camera as the focus is really sharp and fast and the eye focus is amazing.

How about just turning off the screen once your settings are entered, it would avoid accidentally changing settings and discourage a tendency to chimp unnecessarily.
