I started stacking using a Nikon D7100 with the 105 macro lens and Control My Nikon software to make the exposures. Now I use a D850 because it can be set up to take the required images automatically. I then process the stack using Zerene Stacker. For this stack I was using the 24-120 lens.

Thanks the a6500 doesn’t have that feature. I use the focus peaking and focus manually when using a tripod and if not on tripod manual focus on the near point and move closer with continuous shooting. Takes a lot of images but usually works out. Thanks again.

A couple of weeks ago I posted a series of photos of a white hyacinth blossom. This is the little sister, all grown up now. The final shot is a 20 frame d-Map focus stack processed in Zerene. Stacking wasn't really necessary but I was pleased with it. I had been having trouble getting stacking right and it was a relief to have it work out.

To get the black background I used two pieces of black foamcore. One for the base and the other (propped up with a bottle of pancake syrup) for the backdrop. Sometimes I add extra light but these were just shot on the dining table with the light from above and additional light coming from the kitchen.

Yes, but I want a portable setup. Our son has an M1 MacBook Air. It is amazing.

The M1 Mini can drive two monitors. The M1 MacBooks support one external, unless you use DisplayPort adapters.

Of the three M1 Macs, the Mini is the fastest for sustained loads, due to its large fan. The Air throttles down a little when it gets hot. The Pro and Mini don’t.

Thanks. I have a MacBook Pro that has always stayed on my desk. I already have the monitor and keyboard and the mini is very attractive. Thanks again.

Strong rumors abound that Apple will introduce ALL NEW 14" and 16" MacBook Pros this Summer. They will be powered by the M-series systems on chips and are rumored to bring back the SD Card slot, the Mag-Safe power charger connector, and possibly a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, and an HDMI or other dedicated monitor port such as DisplayPort or Mini-DisplayPort.

I was almost ready to pull the trigger on an M1 MacBook Pro 13", but now I will wait and see.

Curious - would you consider a Mac Mini in place of the 13”?

Video One Repair, Newbury Park, cA. Google them for address and number. They are authorized warranty repair for Sony and canon video and also work on stills. Replaced a card slot on a6500 for me. Referred to me by Swamy’s Camera repair dept.

The key to using the infra red trigger is to understand it is line of sight and must be pointed at the receiver on the camera body. A lot of camera bodies have them close to the lens barrel and easy to miss. If you still have problems get a Nikon branded transmitter.

I take it you want dropbox primarily for sharing and not storage. Some readers are not getting that. I guess they jumped in without reading the OPs post. No real idea what to do. I find DropBox wanky on Windows with my tower PC and currently have it removed until I find someone experienced enough to walk me thru a proper installation and using DropBox to share files. Yes, any simple alternatives for a Windows 10 PC?

We transfer is a simple free method to send up to 2 Gb per transfer.

Sounds like there is a setting tying exposure to focus point. I use Sony and it has that capability. Not sure about canon.

Your Youtube video information is suspect. Capture One is not comparable to Photoshop and Lightroom just as Photoshop is not comparable to Lightroom. There are reasons Adobe provides both.

Capture One is, as editing software, comparable to Lightroom -- both are parametric raw processors/editors. Photoshop is a raster image editor and so fundamentally different than either C1 or LR.

C1 offers a cataloging component in addition to the editing component as does LR. Most people will thumbs up LR as the superior cataloging tool over C1.

As far as the two programs editing abilities they're reasonably close. LR has more features eg. HDR ability but C1's core editing tools are hard to beat.

I began with LR then added PS and have now used C1 for 2 years - going to PS only to stitch panoramics. IMHO C1 is superior for color rendition and editing. The masking capability is more than sufficient for me. ‘Sessions’ is a very east organizer and importing them into a reference catalog is a great way to archive. Suggest you try it

I make my $$$ teaching Adobe software -- PS/LR. I highly recommend them as the industry leading image editing software. Prior to 2011/12 I likewise used PS/LR for all of my personal work. At that time I made the transition to C1 and now do all my personal work with C1. I have PS/LR on my computers no charge to me (employer pays for it) but I spend the money to use C1 instead. In my job I examine a lot of other image editing software and have for example On1, Luminar, ACDSee, SilkyPix, Affinity, etc. installed on my computers. I haven't seen anything that would tempt me away from C1.
