Having recently purchased a Capture One Pro 20 Licence for Nikon can anyone tell me what I will be missing if I do not purchase a copy of the New Capture 21. There seems to be scant detail of what it will do and how it improves on Pro 20. All I know is that it will cost me the same as the original licence.
No free upgrades for any time at all? Anyway how do you like what you have?
I have the same software version. As of yesterday there was no information out on the upcoming release. Should be soon.
Download the beta version for free. Sign the NDA and do not dis uss.
I also have version 20. I have always upgraded and found the improvements worthwhile. But........I learned last year, after pre-purchasing 20 with a discount; that they now have CP1 for Nikon...less $$! Since I only use Nikon, I will be only considering the Nikon version. Waiting to evaluate the changes.

Yep that is their model. But they now also offer a subscription version.
I evaluated Capture One a few years ago, when Apple announced the end of Aperture. I found the raw rendering tool to be very good. It resulted in less work, and saved time when editing raw images as compared to some of the other “after market” editing programs.
Phase One offer a free trial of Capture One if you care to see for yourself how it works.
I took the early upgrade last year. They had a good release with a lot of new features mid-year. So you may not see all the new features right away.
The "upgrade" is around the same price as an annual Adobe LR/PS subscription. I use Affinity Photo vs. PS so I don't need PS.
I use Capture One at least 2 or three times a week for my professional photography work and find that it is a good tool. So I find a lot of value in it. Funny - most photographers I know wouldn't blink at spending $120 for a filter or camera bag - but freak out over spending anything for software.
If I wasn't doing professional work I might look at lower cost or free options. I have to work fast and have excellent results which is why I use and continue to support Capture One.
CaptureOne is the benchmark raw photo processor and has a great workflow and feature set. It doesn't replace PS for special effects, like putting wings on pigs but it's much better than LR. My guess if you have bought Capture20 in the past 30days and you contact them they'll make an accommodation for you.
Definitely buy the Nikon version if you use only Nikon gear. I've had the Sony version for four years and it's excellent. The annual upgrade for a brand-specific version has ranged from $50-70, but you will get free updates until the next upgrade comes out.
So far, Phase One has offered a pre-order option, but has not explained what new features will be available in the coming upgrade. Of course, if your current version meets all your RAW-conversion needs, there may be no reason to purchase the upgrade this year.

My guess, based on past experience, is they won’t. But maybe OP will contact them and post the results here.

I too am no longer taking on work. I did look for the lower cost options, and I decided that it's worth staying with good software. Everything I looked at paled in comparison. I use C1, On1, DXO and LR/PS. LR for everything and file organization, and each of the others for specific stuff that each can do better than any of the others. My workflow always starts with LR and almost always ends with PS.
