I use it, on auto or low. It has helped smooth out big lighting extremes. It is an easy way for me to capture high dynamic range shots with no effort on my part.

Just keep in mind the size and weights of your camera choices. As you lug your gear around, this will be something you'll definitely be aware of. For me, the D5600, being so small and light, is perfect. The D7500 is quite a bit heavier, and the D500 even moreso, let alone the full frame cameras, which might feel like carrying a barbell around. I just wanted to bring this to your attention, how important this can be.

In bright daylight, my phone is very good. But software compensation for a very small sensor can only do so much. The processing algorithms in a phone make programmed decisions how to "correct" the deficiencies of a small sensor. As you progress in photography, you will pick up on this more and more. A phone camera, by the laws of physics, can only receive a small amount of light. The lenses are not all that great either. For the average person, a phone camera is very convenient. For simple snapshots, I use my phone as well. If you really want good quality photos that you want to enlarge to a size larger than a computer screen, you have no choice but to use a "real" camera.

From what I've read for many years, this is not an "Honest Abe". Everyone, over the years, can't be wrong.

I had the same experience. I bought a small, inexpensive mirrorless, took it with me on a vacation, and when I got back home, I saw a spot in all of the images. Dust. And I only switched lens a few times. I concluded that the probability of sensor dust is much higher than on my DSLR (this never happened on that camera), so I always use my DSLR now, just to be on the safe side. With mirrorless cameras, you need to be very diligent and check for dust, frequently, if you change lenses very often. Lesson learned.

I have both. There definitely pros and cons to both systems. Mirrorless cameras are smaller, which is nice. I used my mirrorless once, taking dozens of photos, only to discover later dust spots on the images. I learned the hard way how much more susceptible to dust on the sensor problems mirrorless cameras are compared to DSLR's. This never happened to my DSLR.

I liked it, I tried it, BUT....if you have been using the half press shutter button method for years, maybe decades, it is so ingrained into your mind that it is hard NOT to continue to use this method, even with the camera set to BBF--and so, you go to take a photo, quickly, you're not thinking, just acting as you have for years, snap the picture with just the shutter release--and you wind up with a blurry photo. This happened to me several times. I had no choice but to go back to the shutter release focus method. I cannot stop biting my fingernails after a lifetime of habit, nor can I re-train my brain to "remember" to press the AF button to focus. That is just me, and I imagine there are a lot of older guys just like me.

I tried this method, and it didn't work. So far, every morning before I take photos, I check to see if camera and phone are paired. If not, I've found, the only way to make it pair is to uninstall then reinstall Snapbridge. So far, I've done this at least a dozen times. Then it keeps the connection all day long. The problem seems to arise when u don't use my camera for a few days.

I know all this, thank you anyway,...but I am wanting to use Snapbridge! I thought maybe someone found a shortcut to help it pair more easily. I do like to download 2MB files to my phone, and I do like the ability to upload them or send them on the "snap", without having to wait till I get home to do what you suggest.

If I don't use my camera and phone for a while, i.e. pairing Snapbridge, my d5600 and Snapbridge don't connect. My only solution is to uninstall Snapbridge, and reinstall it, then it pairs fine, but it's a great nuisance to have to do that all of the time. Anyone else have this problem, and have you found a shortcut to getting camera and Snapbridge to pair?

I have a D5600 and with back button focus set, I can use AF-A, and it works perfectly. I have personally tested it, it switches between a S mode initially into a C mode seamlessly if needed, by just holding the BB focus button down; it focus tracks a moving subject. I don't know about other Nikon camera models.

I found that AF-A works fine with back button focus, and preserves the focus beep and the focus illumination light, which is disabled using AF-C. In AF-A, it starts as an AF-S, but if the subject moves and you keep pressing the focus button, the focus changes exactly as you would expect.

Once you use the back button focus on a stationary object, the focus will remain at that setting, even if you turn the camera off and back on again. No need to focus with every shot. And if you hold the bbf button down on a moving subject, it will keep that subject in focus as it moves. Very convenient.

You can set the focus to AF-A and it will work as an AF-S if the subject is stationary, and switch to AF-C if it detects movement. By doing this, you preserve the in focus beep and the AF illuminator light (which is disabled using AF-C}. Also, you can reassign the shutter button to Auto expose lock when pressed halfway. This is how I set up my back button focus, and it gives me the best of both methods.
