I picked up my Nikon Z9 two days ago. Yes, there was minimal information with the camera, but that was expected. If the online English manual is 500 pages, consider that all printed information that comes with the camera is required to be printed in five or six languages. Check out YouTube “Nikon TV | Z 9 Hidden Features with Taku & Kristian” hosted by Chris Ogonek, of Nikon.

(Nikon’s SLR Flag-ship Camera is the D6 selling for about $6,500, the Z9 retails for $5,500, be happy)

When I was teaching photography, I told the students more than the importance of having a backup battery, I told them that they should have a backup battery for their backup battery. --Don Gorzek - Menomonee Falls, WI

I worked as an audio-visual and photographic specialist in a public high school. The schools principal required me to do similar cover ups in the mid nineteen-nineties. The similar changes were done photographically, before Photoshop software.

I use Pocket Wizard triggers, Nikon Triggers, Alien-Bee Triggers, and Godox Triggers. I will be adding Westcott Flash Triggers went I update my strobes to Westcott FJ400 units. Check “Getting Started with the Westcott FJ-X2m Strobe Trigger”. This trigger works with most all camera and flash systems.

I have been a Nikon owner and user for sixty years. I started with the Nikon S-2 rangefinder with several lenses. Today I use a D850 (hard to beat), D810, and a D800 converted to infrared. I am not sure of my next camera body. I may purchase a D6 or wait for the rumored “Z9” that will likely capture 20 frames per second with file size of 60-meg or more.

Photography is all about lighting, be it available or artificial. You need to learn lighting. For flash photography I make use of three kits and plan to add fourth next month. My kits include Nikon with seven SB-800, Buff with four Alien-Bees, and Godox with two AD200. I plan to purchase three Westcott FJ400 units. These units will fire twenty flashes a second to keep up with your camera. The FJ400 can also produce in-camera masks for composites. Check www.fjwestcott.com and https://westcottu.com for education about lighting

Nikkor’s Nano Crystal Coat, Super Integrated Coating, and ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass virtually eliminates internal lens element reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. Quality images is what you get with top of the line lenses.

I have four Paul C Buff strobes for my home portrait-studio and find and find them excellent. Today I am thinking about adding two or four of the new Westcott FJ400, 400 watt second strobes. Think about 20 full power flashes a second and still be battery operated. Don Gorzek, Menomonee Falls WI.

Regarding "Big Sur" - In my thirty-five years using Mac Computers I have found that you should DO NOT upgrade your operating system unless you have to. I believe that "Big Surprise" was design for the new M1 chip from Apple. The new Macs were released November 17, 2020. My MacBook Pro is very dated and still uses "High Sierra".
I have just ordered the new MacBook Pro with the M1 chip and should receive next week. I have a masters degree in computer science education and before retiring I was one of three techs that serviced five-thousand Apple computers for a school district. Don Gorzek - Menomonee Falls, WI

I recently purchased the current version the 80-400mm Nikkor lens. It is fast focusing and sharp. I bought to photograph high school soccer from a hill above the field. With no high school sports occurring, I have been using it in my new backyard bird portrait studio. I am very pleased with the resulting image captures. I have watched the 80-400mm through its four or five versions. The earlier versions I found were not very good for sports or wildlife photography.

Nikon does not make a full fish-eye (round image) for any of their DX Camera. The image recorded on the DX sensor is 180-degrees, corner to opposite corner. The 8 to 15mm lens will not produce a round image on a DX sensor.
I am a Nikon Fish-eye lens owner and user for over fifty years,

I used the first Nikkor 8mm Fish-eye for a summer in 1967, and enjoyed it a lot. Today, I have two Nikkor Fish-eye lens, the 10.5mm and the 8-15mm zoom fish-eye. If you use a DX Nikon body the 10.5mm will give you some interesting images. If you photograph with a full-frame Nikon I think you would be happier with the 8-15mm zoom fish-eye. It has Nikon Nano-coating that nearly eliminates sun and bright light source reflection within the lens. Examples attached—Polevault-10.5mm, PalmTrees-8-15mm zoom at 8mm, and Skull in Field-8-15mm zoom at 8mm and15mm
