Sony a1, Sony 200-600mm @ 200mm 6.3, 1/3200 sec. iso 500.
I had been photographing this Otter out in the sun in manual exposure based on green foliage readings.
As it swam closer it dove under the surface and came up almost under me while I was on the board walk, he was in deep shadows and there was no time to change settings as he stared at me for a brief second before going under once again. I shoot in RAW so I brought it back in Photoshop RAW.
I have photographed these guys for months but this is the closest I ever got, this little guy always, if he sees me, will stop what he is doing and gives me a once over.

You are very lucky that this Otter has befriended you.. They are usually reclusive Critters.. I have spent a lot of time in the wilds but never have I seen a otter like this.. Thank You...

Not only is the GPS great for traveling, but it's also good for local driving. I had to drop something off in Woodstock yesterday before continuing on to Catskill. I figured I'd take my regular route through Woodstock, but the GPS had a different idea. It had me turn left and right and left and right on roads I had never taken before. It wasn't until I was a few miles from Catskill that I was on a familiar road. I don't know how much time I saved, but the GPS is set for the shortest time.

This has happened several times when I am at a local location and have to go to another local location. The GPS shows me a route that never would have occurred to me.

Jerry, I am glad that your GPS worked out for you.. When Instrument Flying we are taught to believe what our Instruments are telling us.. When in a overcast vertigo sets in real easy.. Although the GPS tells us stuff that is hard to believe at times.. All that driving on new roads and not one Picture to share with us???

I watch several reports of plane accidents. Yesterday I watched an analysis of a crash that killed two young men. The young pilot was more interested in the prestige factor of being a pilot, taking lots of selfies while being instructed. His instructor managed to get him to settle down, somewhat. Eventually, the instructor quit when the boy showed up with alcohol on his breath. The flying school dropped him.

What to do? Simple. The father bought his son a plane and found another instructor. Although he had gotten some kind of certificate, he had restrictions because of his lack of experience - no passengers, for example. Well, around 3:30 on morning, he and a friend drove to the airport and took off on a dark, cloudy night - not far from a military Air Force base. He never used the radio despite being called several times by the Air Force base. Flying in dark, cloudy skies, he eventually spiraled into the ground, killing himself and his 19-year-old friend.

Everything was wrong with this story. The kid was irresponsible, and the father supported him by finding different instructors as one after another quit and then buying him a plane. Imagine the parents waking up in the morning and learning that their son had crashed and killed himself.

This analysis was on "Pilot Debrief" on YouTube. Hoover gives a good analysis of crashes, often pointing out shortcomings in the investigation. He's a former F-15 pilot.

One thing that a flight instructor cannot teach is common sense. I have a sticker in my log book that reads “Learn from the mistakes of others as you won’t live long enough to make them all yourself”….. I watch a lot of those videos myself.

My go to lens is a 18-400 Tamron. It gives me the most options. It is a lot smaller and when at Airshows I don’t have make lens changes for close ups and the airplanes flying and taking a chance of getting dirt on the sensor. I know. This is a bit long winded, but the same is with bird photos sometimes they land close and sometimes not so close.

The Bugatti is a 1938 Type 57 Atalante. In the second shot of this car, you can see the owner ( I believe ) using a brush to keep dust off of the car. I don't blame him. He sold the car at the Gooding auction held at Amelia for $2,050,000

The 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, shown below, sold for $1,850,000.
