The Bugatti is a 1938 Type 57 Atalante. In the second shot of this car, you can see the owner ( I believe ) using a brush to keep dust off of the car. I don't blame him. He sold the car at the Gooding auction held at Amelia for $2,050,000

The 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, shown below, sold for $1,850,000.

Nicely shot set Tom. I remember when you could buy a 300 SL roadster for under $10K in the Road and Track classified.

That was at a time long, long ago in a land far, far away.

Fantastic set!!! Tom
Would you believe 1958 I had a chance to buy a 300sl coupe for 9K and my dad would not co-sign the loan.

In 1968, I had a chance to buy a 300 SL Gullwing for $10,000. A guy I knew lost a lot of money in his business and he was scrambling for some bucks. I kept the car for a day and took it to a Mercedes mechanic...it was in great shape, but needed a little attention to the interior. At the time, I was leveraged to the hilt in developing a fair-sized real estate project I had going, so I passed on the deal. A year later I would have been all over that car.

Great set of images Tom. Given the selling prices, I don't blame the owner of the Bugatti with the brush. I'll bet he had a Do Not Touch sign somewhere too. The 55 Mercedes, roadster or gullwing, set a standard for performance and looks that I don't think has been surpassed to this day (sorry Enzo). Would that Mercedes be worth more as a gullwing?

Only issue I have with this posting Tom is that Bugatti is blocking the view of the Austin Healey behind it.

Hey, Jack. I had a shot at a Gullwing in1968. See my response to Frank above.
