A recent post reminded me of a member, and I realized that he hadn't posted in a while. Does anyone know what happened to Festina Lente?

Good morning Jerry,

I'm still here and vertical. I pray you area as well! Thanks for making this public inquiry 6 years ago. I just noticed it today when another HOG member asked me a question.

After years on Ugly Hedgehog, I found my interests in photography evolving and I drifted away from the Hog. Extensive traveling, professional gigs, and rapidly advancing image technology all conspired against me having time to engage on the UHH forums. I've just been too occupied elsewhere.

However Jerry, I noticed that you had only one public post in 2021. So now I concerned about you.

RSVP Jerry. Please. I'd enjoy catching up with you!

...... We are all sad today a Florida Panther was hit by a car and killed. 1st one in the county in years. I go out most everyday and have never seen one so it's going to be a while for that one.

That is indeed sad.
The Florida Panther is an endangered species.
I use to see a few of these shy but graceful cats in the wild back in the 1970's, but between habitat destruction by developers, highways, and a few renegade hunters, their numbers have really plummeted.
About the only place you can see one in the wild is from a well placed and very patient game camera in a remote area.

Its obviously tongue in cheek. Did you actually read it? How could you think it might be real?
Normally my common sense kicks in. It failed me this time.
But given other recent Nikon recalls, it seemed possible....... oh well.
The taste of hook, line and sinker is not very pleasant!
I'm feeling quite foolish.

The DIY Photography website is credible.
Other photo discussion websites have picked it up and are running with it as fact, referencing the culprit DIY Photography website.

But who reads the "About the Author" blurb very often.
I sure didn't!
But there it is, in bold letters at the very end:
P.S. {editor’s note: this is of course totally fake}

The taste of hook, line and sinker is not very pleasant!

Beautiful!
I'm jealous that you live close enough to be able capture these images.
I've visited Bryce several times, but my timing was never as fortunate.
Thanks for sharing!

When looking for something, we always seem to find other things that we couldn't find in the past and never find what we were looking for to begin with.
Well, I can't remember what I was looking for but I found "Gumby & Pokey", cartoon caricature of the 1950s. I bought these figures at a yard sale years ago. Always have props, you'll use them more than you think!
Here's my composition. ALWAYS THINK HAPPY THOUGHTS! AP

Echos from a era in our history long long ago, when life was simple, clean, honorable and safe.
Nice to go back there once in a while.
Thanks for the brief journey!

Joke I think! :)
If so, it is well done.
But I see nothing therein that looks malicious.

A preemptive recall (prior to availability to buying public) speaks volumes about Nikon's oncession with quality and reputation.
Here here!!

Sure looks like you had a great outing.
And in early March in blustery Buffalo, NY too!

It is good to read about exceptional customer service once in a while.
All too often we tend to focus on disappointments and mistakes.
This story is a customer service grand slam!
Go Helen!

LR does not change your RAW files on either import or export. RAW files cannot be changed. What I suspect has happened is that at some time you did an export and set the quality level for your exports. LR remembers the quality setting and continues to use it for subsequent exports until you change it again.
I think you nailed it.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't LR save the quality level used for each selected image file versus returning to a global default?
At least, that is how I have it set up, but I cannot recall if I had to do something special to get it to work that way.
It just makes more sense to me to preserve settings last used for individual images as a starting point for that particular image.

Now that you have a spectacular lens, your next step is to work on your composition skills. Although these examples will do as quick test images, they hardly will win any awards for visual appeal.

harsh, he/she was testing out a new lens, not entering a competition.
Perhaps, but I suspect well intentioned.
One thing that may immediately improve these test shots, is to brokeh the distracting background by start shooting with the lens wide open and go up from there.

mikedidi46, give it a try (shallower depth of field) and post the results.

Here is a good yet simple Brokeh simulator that really speeds up the learning curve. Worth playing with.
