I sold a D810 and a D500 and bought a Z7 and a Z6. I see lots of applicable advantages for mirrorless.

I am 73 and have a little shake in my hands. Two things that are very important for me are less weight and in body stabilization (IBS). I can easily cary either camera and a 24-200 lens all day. With IBS I can hand hold with excellent results down to 1/10 shutter speed.

I use Focal the computerized focus checking system. I tested 5 lenses on my Z7 and Z6. Four of the five showed zero correction on both cameras. Both cameras indicated a -1 for the 5th lens. That lens was using the F adapter. That much correction is basically inconsequential. I have used the system with a D810 and a D500 both of which required much more correction. Since the mirrorless cameras were so consistent it makes me believe that system is outstanding in finding errors whether they are in the camera or the lens. It is also relatively quick and easy to use.

Here's My 2 cents worth, I have Shelter Ins now, was thinking of going with USAA, so I called them got a goute
as they compared to my deductables I have now and the difference was $1600 a year more then am paying now and my Agent is local here where I live.

I had a very similar experience except my current company is Farmers. I am president of our HOA with 94 homes in the community. We had a hail storm that wiped out many of the roofs. Everyone god good service and new roofs quickly except for the USAA folks. I believe things have changed since they changed the rules for membership. Higher prices and less service.

I have a Z7 and had the same issue. I bought the Z6 on sale last month. It has the same body and operating system as the z7. It does a little better in high ISO, has a better video and is a little faster in burst than the Z7. The 7 has a much higher megapixel sensor and better detail. The Z50 has a slightly different body and operating system and is missing several capeabilities. I chose the Z6 since I don't have to think about which button does what. I have configured both cameras the same.

I went to a Z7 from a D810 when the Z came out. I had a D500 at that time. After update 3, the Z7 is arguably better than a D850 in many ways. I hardly used the D500 any more. I don't live anywhere close to a dense bird area. So, I sold the D500 and all but one of the F mount glass and replaced it with a Z6 and more Z glass. Both the Z7 and the Z6 are FX. The initial reason was to have two bodies that were the same physically and used the same operating system. I am getting older and going back to the D bodies and operating sytem wasn't working well. The Z6 was to be a backup. I find now that the two bodies complement each other well as the Z6 does a few things a bit better than the Z7 and vise versa. The Z7 has enough pixels that it makes a very nice shot in DX mode for the effective extra reach.

Have you considered the latest AF-P 70-300 4.5-5.6. That is the FX version and has very good ratings by about everyone. I use it on a D500 and a Z7 with great results. It is a bargain at $600.

Why not a Nikon Z7? It suffered initially from reviewers who did not know how it was different than older Nikon cameras. Software revision 2 has made it the equal of the Sony with much better menus. It will lock focus when you set it to. It will constantly focus when you us constantly focus AFC and give you no green lock since you told it thru its controls to constantly focus at the designated focus point. Revision 2 makes it focus as fast or faster than any Nikon including the D850 bested only by the D5. Its low light focus follows that level of performance as well.

Hand held is better any time I have less than 10 seconds to get the shot.

I have a Galaxy s10. My wife has an iPhone xs. I am 72 she is 70. They are both pretty good. The Galaxy being android gives you more control. For example in pro mode you get both jpeg and raw saved. There are other areas. If you know something about photography I thing the Galaxy is better.

My normal camera is Nikon Z7. My wife shoots strictly with the Iphone.

I tried a thread like this on the Z6 a while back and got little useful experience.

So I’ll offer a little feedback on the Z6 which applies to Z7. My previous camera was D800 and I also have D5600.

1. Sensor gets dusty fast because of exposure during lens changes and Nikon tells you to not manually clean it. And I’m not convinced the shake cleaning works on camera off.

2. Can’t use with Lightroom 6 and even with Adobe dng converter RAW images have substantial color shift ( Adobe screw up). Fixed w subscription Lightroom.

3. Nice to use w 24-70 lens but using adapter a PITA.

4. Controls, including touch screen, easy to use (compared to D800 like unlit button interface). But my D5600 has same and weighs less.

5. Miss pop up flash.

6. Battery life fine but doesn’t let my off brand batteries work.

7. Can’t use alternative image areas with DX lenses.

8. It makes me favor my D5600 more each day.

9. Wish I’d got the D850 or kept my D800.

I have a Z7 and believe you are wrong on the majority of your assertions. I have over 5k images and zero dust. Cleaning is the same as DSLR. The adapter is very easy to use. You can indeed use DX lenses and the DX area. It's the 4th item down on the shooting menu.

This stuff amazes me. It all started when initial reviewers made all kinds of erroneous claims when the camera first came out and they didn't know how to use it.

I own a Z7. With the latest firmware update it has very good eye focus. The images are indistinguishable from the D850. It focuses for all practical purposes as fast as the D850 and will do so in lower light. All my Nikon lenses work beautifully. With QXD and soon FX Express ards what's not to love?

I have been lucky enough to have traveled to almost 40 countries in the last 10 years. I have never really had a problem. The one thing I do different is always shoot hand held.

Setting up a tripod and staking out your desired view might be a bit much if you expect people to stay out of your space.

Look, Nikon says, and I quote, "Nikon does not recommend fine turning your lenses, you should only do this if you are a professional or done by Nikon".
If you want to fine tune your lenses, you are free to do so, I am not standing in anyone's way.
I am just stating what my experience has shown, that my 30+ AF Nikon lenses have not needed fine tuning to give me sharp 30X40 prints.
I believe free will is still in play.

Are you sure fine tuning your lens is the same thing as adding compensation adjustments, which Nikon added to the camera for all to use. I believe the lenses themselves can be adjusted by a tech.
