Yep, Canon still #1.

In fact, Canon's 45.4% market share is greater than Sony, Nikon and Fuji's combined. To keep this announcement from being sent to the back 40 of Links & Resources, let's reference the summary numbers provided by Nikkei Asian Review, just published for the 2019 worldwide market share for digital cameras (gathered from 74 countries) :

Canon 45.4% (+ 2.4)
Sony 20.2% (+ 0.9)
Nikon 18.6% (- 1.6)
Fujifilm Holdings 4.7% (- 0.4)
Panasonic 4.7% (0.0 )

Pretty much been Canon all along. Sony has overtaken Nikon though.

I'm not knocking any manufacturer but more is not always better.

Longshadow said: REAL photographers use any camera.

What was the photographer trying to say? Maybe he just liked what he saw...

Right on.

What if those percentiles were 'money' in your personal pocket?

I still won't invest in Canon stock shares, which have been going downhill for years - right now at the lowest since the mid 1990's!

I once had a friend in college who came from a small town in Ohio. He was friends with the owner of a factory there that made coal-stoker furnaces. The owner's goal was to lead the world in stoker furnace sales. Well, he succeeded, but he gained a large share of a tiny market. That may be Canon's fate.

Here's another cute anecdote: There once was a worldwide market leader in cameras. They ignored trends in the market. Another company bet the entire camera operations and leaped forward into all-electronic auto focus. That former leader very quickly became #2. And now, that 100+ year old company has sunk to #3 worldwide and continues to get smaller. The company that saw a chance to become the market leader in imaging technology is now bigger than the next three companies combined.

So Canon is for the masses and Panasonic is for the classes.

I diversified my portfolio to minimize the risk: I own at least 1 camera from each of the 5 companies mentioned here.
