That's great. I guess you can disregard the previous email about repairing it for you.

I do a lot of repairs for a lot of people. By and large, most go smoothly without problems. If there are parts involved it may take some time to get them in stock especially if I have to order them from China. Nikon does not sell camera repair parts in the U.S,A.

Like most of you I read lens reviews before I buy them. I have been doing this since the 50’s when Popular Photography used to regularly test camera and lenses. Now I get my reviews on line. A conclusion. All lenses are sharp at f8. Usually at f5.6 and f11 too. Even the cheapest third party lenses. Only the high priced glass is really sharp wide open or down one or two stops. So, buy the cheapest lenses and shoot aperture priority at f8 whenever possible. OK, I recognize that this is not always the possible but, I think it does say a lot about lenses. My favorite lens is my Minolta MC 50mm f1.4. I have read reviews that this may be the sharpest 50mm lens ever made. True or not, (probably not) I really don’t recall ever shooting it at less than f5.6. So, for me, most of the time, the f8 rule is quite reliable. And how fast glass is so unnecessary for me. And how it pains me to think of all the really expensive glass I have bought over the years. And how relieved I am that even my cheap 135mm Minolta MD f3.5 lens at f5.6-f11 will give me the results I want. Now, go ahead and beat me up.

If there i no back or forward fucus issues, most lenses are sharp wide open. I've calibrated hundreds back focus issues on all types of lenses and some aren't possible but by and large the majority of them come out sharp as a tack. The ones that don't are usually impact damage or are the very cheapest of lenses.

With today's cameras, this can be done in the camera to a certain extent and this works fine most of the time but some lenses actually require physical calibration to work correctly.

Someone gifted me an old Yashica MAT-124G camera that had belonged to a relative. It looks clean and shiny but I know nothing about them. How do I find someone to check it out? Hopefully there are YouTubes for using it.
Can someone point me in a good direction? I am not interested in selling it.
Thanks.

I've been repairing these for decades now and, if it hasn't been calibrated in a while, it will need a thorough cleaning, relubrication and calibration.

These came out with a mercury battery that was a different voltage than what is available today. The good news is can be recalibrated just fine and they make good medium format cameras with a built in meter.

Let me know if you need someone to check it out for you. I'll be happy to take a look at it.

I like to check local sale sites, Craigslist, FB Market place, etc. Most, at least 90% of the Nikons are D3200 with a few D3000, D3300 and D3400. Prices range from $139-$350. Is there a reason so many people want to dump the D3000 series? Found a D40 and a D70 at around a $100, no single or triple digit series.

I would avoid the D3000's but the others are ok as long as the shutter count is low enough. They make good starter cameras.

i am shooting nikon D5200, used a 50mm 1:8 and 1:4, i can't get a sharp image, F16 160ss studio strobes
i am not sure if it's the lens or the camera, or combo, it's works well most of the time but for this transfer bench,it
's not
so if i decide it's the camera, any not too expensive, still use nikon either as is lens or adapters , i can't afford to start from scratch, but i'm feeling like i'm not advancing this way
any suggestions are always appreciated..

It's most likely the lens. Either a back focus or forward focus issue but it is impossible to be certain without testing them bot.

As a camera technician, I've seen many of these come through the shop. Surprisingly, usually for just a general service, check-up nd sensor cleaning. I have replaced the shutter on a couple of them but they had over 500,000 activations and it was time. The shutters are rated at about 250,000 activations but most of the cameras I've seen have much less than that. All in all, the D750 is a very good camera and I haven't had any customer complaints about them.

If you find any service manual for any digital camera let me know. I would like to find out how they test the shutter.

What are you wanting to test on the shutter? Speeds and exposure require a piece of test equipment simply called a shutter tester. Some have both these features combined, others require separate pieces of equipment to test both speeds and exposure. These are expensive and usually owned exclusively by camera repair shops. most shops will test the shutter for you free of charge.

I tried to clean my Sony A77v sensor without a cleaning kit, so I am wondering if I should get a professional cleaning done next time, so I can check to make sure I didn't mess my sensor up. I think the spots seem to be greatly reduced, and shouldn't affect my landscape photos, but haven't gone out yet. Test shots from before and after the cleaning.

I'll be more than happy to take care of the camera for you and keep the cost as low as possible.

Most items can be repaired for around $50 - $150 + parts, if necessary, which are supplied at or near cost and I will contact you first for authorization if additional parts are necessary.

Simple camera cleanings cost less, $35 - $50 + S&H. This includes a thorough service and check-out for good working order. I’ll detail the body exterior, clean the mirror cage and viewscreens, update the firmware, clean the sensor spotless and I’ll even clean the inside of thee body cap for you.

Return shipping & handling usually runs about $20 anywhere within the U.S.

Most repairs will take about a week to ten days if no special order parts are needed.

All repairs are warranteed for 90 days, parts and labor.

The easiest way to have your camera equipment repaired is to simply ship it to me via your favorite carrier at the address below. Most use the US Mail Priority flat rate boxes that run about $15 anywhere in the country. PLEASE DO NOT SEND IT “SIGNATURE REQUIRED”.

Include a fully charged battery and charger, if possible, as most of these are proprietary to the camera and it is impossible to stock them all.

Please pack everything carefully allowing at least 2"-3" of padding all the way around.

Be sure to include a note with a brief description of the problem, any time constraints and your contact information (Name, Address, Email address & Telephone Number). Also, if you haven't done so, please visit my website – www.discountcamerarepair.com and fill out the contact form.

I can be reached at the telephone number below if you have any further questions.

Thank You,
