Someone gifted me an old Yashica MAT-124G camera that had belonged to a relative. It looks clean and shiny but I know nothing about them. How do I find someone to check it out? Hopefully there are YouTubes for using it.
Can someone point me in a good direction? I am not interested in selling it.
Thanks.
If you ever are interested in selling it, hit me up.
I have a 124, no G.
It worked great when I was using film.
Loved the large negatives, but square...
I still have my Yashica MAT124G. A great camera to get into the 2 1/4 square format without the great expense of other medium format cameras. I checked with B&H and they still have Ilford 120 B&W film. I was primarily B&W so I could use with my Omega B66 XL enlarger and Heathkit digital photo timer (talk about a blast from the past). The light meter failed on my camera but it still worked perfectly with a Gossen hand held light meter. I used the camera when we were in Europe between 1982 and 1985. It was a different but enjoyable experience from what I had learned using with my Minolta SRT 101. Thanks for helping me remember my time with the Yashica. Maybe I'll order up a couple roll so film from B&H, dust of the B66, and revisit my earlier experiences with B&W photography.
If you don't account for inflation the Yashica Mat 124G is one that you can sell now for more than what you paid for when new. I think even with inflation taken into account you would make even after having used it for 40 years or so.
60 years ago..... Yashica D camera in my hands.... yearbook photographer back then.... young buck then old white hair fat guy now... many cameras since then... now I've graduated from the Nikon D850 to the Nikon Z8 and Z6II
I still love this world of photography! A sad note here... I have so many of my photos used as Mass cards for funerals of my collection of friends and family.
keep clicking....

What Longshadow said. It's a good old camera. I have one, and it's fun to play with once in a while. Bought it new back in the 70s and have hung onto it.

From what I can ascertain, the plain and G are basically the
same camera.
The only differences is that the G has gold battery contacts and is all black.

That photo of the Yashica D reminded me I have a roll of HP5 in mine I need to get out and finish up.

There were more than one iteration. I used a 124G in college a couple times.
Butkus has saved my butt several times.

Like a poor man's Rolleiflex. Capable of producing great quality 6x6cm negatives with format 120 films.
