What Infocus said. Turn on your camera and press "Info" repeatably and it will cycle thru the screens.

I am considering getting this lens for a long zoom purposes. Does anyone have experience with this lens and/or suggestions for a full frame Canon Mark iii long zoom lens?

I use it on a 5D MkII. It's very sharp, zooms fast and provides exellent bouquet. Have never encountered the 'pulls in dust' phenomenon. I wouldn't want to hand hold it all day. I have had exellent results using it on a monopod.

The Canon website will indicate if the "III" is compatible with the 100-400mm lens. I use a Canon 1.4 II with good results. The focusing mode is MF mode as explained in the lens' manual.

If you read the Live View section in your Manual, it will explain the sounds you are hearing. The shutter speed is whats indicated on the LCD. View the meta data for the frame to confirm this.

my rebel T1i is acting up........the shutter button will not engage, green focus confirmation light is blinking.....no picture! The problem is that it does not consistently do this..sometimes it works as it should and then.......it won't. Appears to only be a problem with the AF mode, not MF. Any insight into this frustrating problem?

If your AF Mode is in 'One Shot" and cannot focus, the green focus confirmation light will blink and not let the shutter release. Perhaps you are too close to your subject or there is not enough light for AF to work. Back up at least to the lens' minimum focus distance. You could set your AF Mode to Al Servo and the shutter will fire, but if your lens can't focus the result will be a blurry shot.

Has anyone else had this problem? When I open Elements 8 Organizer my thumbnails display properly. Within moments, one by one, each thumbnail gets a purple hue. If I scroll my mouse the hue vanishes, but returns again in a few moments. Adobe Customer Service doesn't offer support for older versions of their product. Adobe forums suggested I make sure I had the latest Graphic Driver update installed. I updated and still have the problem. My photos view correctly in Windows.

That is a great lense. You could get better results by setting your camera to use the Center focus point, Al Servo Focus Mode and back Button Focus. Stabilize the lens with a Tri Pod or Mono Pod. Make sure the IS button on the lense is turned on and give the lense a second for the IS to start working before you trip the shutter.

You are probably closer than the minimum focusing distance. Back up a hair and it will focus sharply.

It sounds like your AF Mode is set to 'Al Focus' with multi focus points selected. Al Focus will 'search' back and forth somtimes making focusing impossible. Change your AF Mode to 'Al Servo' and choose the Center Focus point. Al Servo will track your subject and the Center focus Point is the most accurate. You might also set up back button focusing if described in the camera manual.

I only have experience with the Canon 24-70 f2.8 L. It's a nice lens. Great for Landscapes,Portraits and low light situations. Check out the lens reviews at B&H or Adorama.
