I have a Nikon D7000, and have only sent my camera in to the shop to have the sensor cleaned, but it seems due again now. I would like to clean it myself, but don't know which products are best to use, and what care is needed to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Sensor Swab and Eclipse fluid it seems to do a good job 12 swabs are around 40-50 bucks and the cleaning fluid is about 10 so you can clean yourself 12 times for about 60 bucks.

I have cleaned the sensor on both of my dslr cameras my self and use "sensor swab" brand swabs and "eclipse" brand solution to do the job.

This link will explain how to do it, and there are other sites too that have the needed information.

Look two places - Visable Dust has some good on-line instructions for cleaning sensors; caveat - they are trying to sell their products, notwithstanding...
Next - Kelby Training (if you subscribe) has a very good video on camera cleaning - not just the sensor - but the whole thing

I just don't feel comfortable cleaning such a delicate part of my camera. I always take mine in and have it cleaned at a local camera repair.

i am fortunate enough to live near the nikon headquarters ..i didn't really need to have my camera cleaned but brought it in anyway to get checked and cleaned because the warranty was just about up..the cost was a mere $30 ..the camera was done in one day and looked like a brand new camera when i picked it up..personally i wouldn't even attempt to do it myself..plus i keep the paperwork to show that I'm maintaining it properly so in case of a future problem i can have it fixed ..i found them to be fair and honest..while i was there others were bringing in their cameras and i felt that the person handling the transactions was personable and honest..if you need to have your camera cleaned have it done professionally..if they screw it up they have to pay for repairs..if you ever need nikon to repair something send it to the nikon headquarters yourself and have them do it ..making sure you send it insured..a camera isn't all that heavy to mail..and you will get nikons prices and not the additional third party costs that does it for you..i have the d7000 and d700 also..they are way too expensive to mess up..

Same here. Make sure you get the correct size swab to match the sensor size.

I use the Arctic Butterfly on mine. But my local high-end Camera store cleans mine to no charge. I will go there occasionally to have them do it.

Knock on wood, but olympus's anti dust sensors have been very kind to me...never had to, hope to never have to.

DON'T!! Just just set for manual clean (lockup the mirror) and use a CLEAN small baby's mucous remover to blow off the dust. Always works great for me on a Canon 5D Mark II.

D7000 have a self-cleaner every time you turn it on. You need to open menu to find self-cleaner and check "ON" and save it.

I was told by a pro photographer that the constant auto clean will ruin a camera and recommended very strongly to clean manually. Just a thought.
