Welcome from a Kenmore, WA transplant to SC. I know you have some beautiful places to take pictures. Have fun!

It's still pretty. I like the clouds and the waves against the rocks.

I updated awhile ago. It works okay, but being somewhat computer challenged I still haven't figured out how to do some stuff. I have to go on YouTube a lot to learn the basics. Maybe someday I will finally get it.

What are the feelings about extension tubes for macro photography? Are there some better than others? I noticed they come in sets of three some higher magnification than others. Which would be best? Thanks!

Hey, Idaho isn't so bad. It borders Washington state too! Besides, my daughter and son in law live there. She has taken some beautiful pictures. 😃

I have been on this site off and on, posted a few questions and pictures. I have found most replies and/or critiques helpful. I still have a lot to learn but I feel more comfortable shooting in aperture mode now, still need lots of work on composition but overall I have felt like I have made progress. Thank you everyone!

Linda, Thank you for sharing. What a special opportunity to capture a whole family of Eagles on film. I especially like the second one.

Excellent! Looks like a white dog to me! And a cute one at that.

A little post processing help to add some microcontrast (clarity in Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw) and a slight warming of the white balance, and brightening up the eyes a bit - and you've got a great shot!

Now you might want to try on a sunny day, which will be more challenging. I try to avoid that, but sometimes I have no choice, as in the shot below.

I'll try in the sun. As to post processing, I only have Picasa and Windows 10. I still haven't set up windows 10 yet. Having to learn how. Thanks for the help and compliment.

Try the following.

Set the meter mode to spot, aperture priority. Turn auto iso off.
If you are outside, set iso to 200, aperture to F8.
Dial in 1-1/3 stop plus compensation. Not doing this will result in a gray dog.

Actually you really want a gray dog, because underexposure is the only way you are going to show shading and detail in a white coat. (I do a lot of dog photography)

Hi, thanks for all the comments, although some of you totally lost me! I actually found this idea very helpful and set my camera to the suggested settings above, at least I hope I did. Here is a pic of the end result, my favorite so far. The hardest part seems to be getting my dog (Marley), to cooperate! Feed back welcome. Thanks again,

Hi, Dave! This is a great place to learn a lot and make friends.

I am familiar with Washington. I grew up there, in Kenmore, raised my family and finally moved to South Carolina in 2011. Look forward to seeing pics of the old homestead. Welcome!
