Mountain Travel Sobek was our travel company of choice, would still be if we would get to go again. Probably 15 memorable trips, both hemispheres, never a disappointment. Small groups is the way to go.

Rescue a dog older than puppyhood. Leapfrogs all that “fun”, for the most part, because some dogs retain some of that for nearly a lifetime, like Labs!

My wife and I commented this morning that if not for Covid, today would have been our biweekly volunteer day at the local food shelf. Which caused me to wonder, since it’s my guess that a large percentage of UHH’ers may be retired, where do/did UHH’ers volunteer? I hope this very unscientific survey showcases the variety of ways one can volunteer at any age.
I’ll start - over the course of a year, at the local food shelf; at Habitat for Humanity; and for the National Park Service.

If you are going to devote 3 hours of TV time to talking about the selection process you have implied the need for an eight or twelve team playoff to let the teams do the selection. The committee selection is inherently flawed and wins and losses ought to be the sole criteria.

When we get older we think differently, don't we? This letter was sent to the Principal's office after the school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An elderly lady received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize and was writing to say thank you. This story is a credit to all humankind.

Dear Kean Elementary:

God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent senior citizens luncheon. I am 94 years old and live at the Sprenger Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it's nice to know that someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady. My roommate is 95 and has always had her own radio, but before I received one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she was napping.

The other day her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. Her distress over the broken radio touched me and I knew this was God's way of answering my prayers. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I told her to kiss my a**.

Thank you for that opportunity.

Sincerely,
Agnes

Dental insurance came on the scene around 1967. It was based on the notion that most people would not use the benefits enough and the premiums would accumulate in the insurer's bank accounts as "profit". The average benefit was $1000/year. Over the 50 year interval premiums kept pace with the the economy, but the average benefit is still $1000/year. In order to get equivalent dental coverage today, the benefit would have to be ~$7340. The insurers have raised the premiums and kept the benefits the same. Guess where to leftover money went. Dental Insurance is win-win, for the insurer and almost always lose-lose for the insured, unless you self-insure by prudent use of compounded interest on savings and practice tested preventive measures like the daily use of a tooth brush and floss and minimize consumption of refined sugars. I retired from dental practice in a rural community 12 years ago and my standard response to patients who said they could'nt afford treatment because they didn't have insurance was to ask what they did about tires that needed replaced. Take responsibility for the maintenance of your "original equipment"! Ask your employer to set aside and invest wisely what they would pay for coverage for you to establish a fund from which they could assist you to cover dental care. Insurance is usually designed to cover catastrophic loss out of control of the insured property.
...... Rant off!

Cabela's is being sought by BassPro (https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/02/08/bass-pro-shops-55-billion-deal-for-cabelas-inc-is.aspx) too. Too many players in the market. Online sales eat up their market.

Sold my dental practice 10 years ago after 31 years in a small farming community and I have heard this logic more than I like to recall. My answer usually went along these lines. "I'm sad to haer that you consider these body parts expendable. They were a gift to you that came with birth. Perhaps, had you cared for them more like you do your (insert whatever, horses, cars, or, maybe even cameras) we wouldn't be having this conversation." I can gaurantee that ebay is not gonna help.

We awaken every morning to this barred owl's "Who-who,-who-cooks-for-you" song and I've only seen it today in the spruce after I spooked him to flight opening the window to shoot some deer bedded down in the woods. Didn't stay longer where I could shoot him but once. Maybe I should put the camera on a monopod too. The 55-200 kit lens may be a little short for this distance.

If you don't mind my asking, what process did you go through to set your camera to use the lens? Did you meter light through the lens or with a hand- held? I have several old Minolta film lenses that I wan't to try.
