I was surprised to learn that our Gander Mountain store is closing. I never shopped there since I don't hunt, fish, or camp, but lots of people around here do. We'll have another big, empty store now.

Our local one says it is also closing. However, they don't seem all that serious about it. Sounds like a misguided sales ploy.

Saw the sign last weekend, last few years I've only gotten my fishing license there , in general their prices were too high, Bob.

I believe they went bankrupt and were purchased by another large sporting goods company which is closing the less profitable stores.

The Gander Mountain store in Henrietta! N.Y. is also closing. I drove by it a week ago and they had big banners outside advertising the fact and that the merchandise was all being sold at reduced prices. No wonder cosidering there was a Dick's Sporting Goods and Field & Stream store in less than a square mile area along with the Gander Mountain Store. Just how many sporting goods stores can an area support?

Gander Mountain is closing stores all over, no one seems to know which one will be closed, I checked with the store in Fenton, Mo. two weeks ago and the employees hadn't been told if they will be out of a job.

I went to the Gander in Columbus, Oh once and could have walked out with anything I wanted because there was no one working there. I am so tired of ALL corporations not hiring enough help and then blaming customers/internet/whatever for low sales. I can't tell you how many times I have left merchandise at the register and walked out of a store because there was no one there. We are supposed to beg to spend money there. Thanks for letting me get in my rant for the day!

Agreed...
And then most of the ones that are working don't know anything about the products they are selling....

Definitely!

Another side of that problem - workers not showing up. My son works for a retailer, and it's not unusual for several people to fail to show up for work every day. Sometimes they call in, and sometimes they don't. The result is under-staffing.

Cabela's is being sought by BassPro (https://www.fool.com/investing/2017/02/08/bass-pro-shops-55-billion-deal-for-cabelas-inc-is.aspx) too. Too many players in the market. Online sales eat up their market.
