My wife and I commented this morning that if not for Covid, today would have been our biweekly volunteer day at the local food shelf. Which caused me to wonder, since it’s my guess that a large percentage of UHH’ers may be retired, where do/did UHH’ers volunteer? I hope this very unscientific survey showcases the variety of ways one can volunteer at any age.
I’ll start - over the course of a year, at the local food shelf; at Habitat for Humanity; and for the National Park Service.

You’re a good man Xmsmn and your better half is a good soul as well.
I do donate but have yet to volunteer. Something to consider.

I volunteer(ed) cos it's all on stop here in Wales for the RSPB. (Our version of the Audubon Society) working with kids from 5 to 21 on outdoor education. Mainly youngsters whose only experience of the open air is from the car to the supermarket. Sometimes undergraduates on wildlife survey techniques

Since one of my daughters has dystonia, I lead three dystonia support groups. One us in NJ where I live, one is in Philadelphia where she lives and one is in a Philadelphia suburb. I helped a nurse who has dystonia start the suburban one a few years ago and took it over when she could no longer lead it.

My daughter who has dystonia was hospitalized with Covid-19 nearly three weeks ago. The virus has been cured and she breathed without a ventilator for nine hours yesterday. The plan for today is to have her breathe on her own for 24 hours.

I have volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, during the restoration of the S.S. John W. Brown (one of only two remaining WW II Liberty ships) and teaching 3rd year med students.

I haven't volunteered in a while. Back when I was younger though, I was on a Volunteer Fire/Rescue Dept. I also taught CPR and First Aid for the Red Cross.
