I'm spending two weeks in the Clearwater-St Pete area in January 2022. What are some "Must See" photo opportunities in about 1.5 hour radius? Thank you!

This place is free - lots of wildlife including birds and alligators. I love it there

First off, the Canon extender will not work on the camera lens combo. I mean, yes, it will work, but will not autofocus. I had this combo and tried taping the pins so that the autofocus would work. That didn't work either. (Google taping pins on Canon lens)

You have to live with what you have or upgrade the lens is you need more focal length. If you had the new 7D MkII and the new 100-400 MkII and the 1.4x Mk III, then it would work but autofocus would be slow.

As I pointed out earlier, Subject line should have said Canon 7D Mk II. I was really trying to find out if the Canon 1.4X III extender would give better results than the Keno 1.4 extender I have if used with the older 100-400 L lens.

Thanks Robert and CHG.

It's good to know the combination works well. I can rent the extender and buy it if I want to (might depend on its condition.)

If I don't like it I can look at other ways to go.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking that, depending on the feedback to my question, I would add the Canon 1.4 III extender to my 7D Mk II and old 100-400 L or look at replacing my 100 - 400 with either the Sigma or Tamron 150- 600 lenses. I don't want to be carrying 2 big telephoto lenses around. I have the 18-135 STM lens which is usually in my bag for wider shots and video. Cost is a limitation and I want reasonably good results without breaking the bank.

Thanks for your response. My subject should have said I have the 7D Mk II

Hi,

Has anyone on the site used (or is currently using) the above combination?

I currently have the much cheaper Kenko 1.4 extender and am not happy with the results. I think the picture degradation is such that it is just as good to use the camera and lens without the extender and crop the pictures taken.

I would like to know if the Canon extender works much better? If anyone has the 7D Mk II and the old 100-400 L lens with the Canon 1.4 III extender, are you happy with the results? Is it better than just cropping?

Thanks to all for any replies

Richard

I second this. The cotton carrier is awesome. I don't notice the weight at all when I am carrying my cameras/lenses. The hand straps are great too since they don't get in the way like a strap does.

Best regards

I have the Canon 10-22 EFS lens. It is really a good wide angle lens with little distortion at 10

I think it was around $650

Hi,

I have the cotton carrier set up for two cameras. I have the 7D with the Canon 100-400 IS L lens in front and 60D with the 18-200 (usually) in the side holster. Even after hiking for hours I barely notice the weight at all and rarely miss a shot.

Best regards
Richard

Cotton Carrier - you hardly feel the weight at all. Shoulder straps still dig into me a bit so they don't work for me

I usually take both my cameras hiking. My 7D will have the 100-400 lens on it for birds and other wildlife. The 60D will have the 18-200 and I will swap that one out for the 10-22 lens when I want a wider angle for landscapes. I carry them using my cotton carrier so don't notice the weight at all.

Best regards

I have the canon 10-22. I don't do a lot of wide angle stuff, but when I do I really like the results this lens gives. I use it mainly with my 60D but sometimes with the 7D.

Do you know if they do this for the 7D? Same issue for me.

Best regards

I use a Cotton Carrier. So comfortable even with two heavy camera/lens combinations at a time.
