Hello Friends,
I have a pinched nerve in my neck and after a photo shoot I have the pain down my right arm for a while. I use one camera about 5 lbs with the zoom and the back up camera a few pounds. My question is what would be recommended for caring these with ease and supporting the cameras not pulling down on the neck. I have read the past post about the sling but not sure if that would help. Thanks in advance.

You have just opened the floodgates. :D

I use OP/Tech on everything. All their bits and pieces are interchangeable, and you can get different colored neck/shoulder pieces for quick identification of different cameras.

A different kind of strap that distributes weight differently may help. I had a similar problem, but with some other complications in my shoulder/hand. I eventually switched to m43 and that solved it (except when I stick one of my big old lenses on it, but I know better.)

Mick, I use the Op-Tech dual harness when I am carrying two cameras and lenses. There are others out there, but more expensive. Gary http://optechusa.com/straps/dual-harness.html

My wife and I both have the same issue. We have been using the Fastfire sling and find carrying cameras much more comfortable. Fastfire is a small family business making these slings in the U.S.

While the Op/Tech products are all good, most people have never heard of the Crumpler Convenient Disgrace Camera Strap. You can get them at B&H and elsewhere. When it comes to comfort, there's nothing like it.

Had the same problem you have. Bad cervical spine from 25 yrs of trucking. Pinched nerve affecting my left arm and hand. A sling strap definitely made things easier for me. I use a Black Rapid. It handles my 7DII and 100-400mm with no problem. There are a number of good types. Find one you like and give it a try. They are not a real expensive item.
BTW, last week I had surgery for the problem. I had C4 thru C7 vertebra fused and nerve passages cleaned out, etc. All I can say is, if surgery is an option for you, then do it. Wish I had done it sooner. These things don't fix themselves and it is amazing what a good surgeon can do.

I too have this problem as well as back problems and I use the OP TECH strap which goes over both shoulders but doesn't pull on either. I used to carry the camera attached to the tripod with it pulled to my left side when walking. Didn't bother me a bit. I have now upgraded to the Canon D5iii, which is a much heavier camera plus a heavier lens, and still it is no problem. I am trying to adapt to shooting handheld so am no longer carrying the tripod with it.

I second the OpTech options.

The is no law that says you must wear your camera around your neck. Have you ever seen a painter walking around with a quiver of brushes around their neck? Do people walk around with brief cases hung around their necks? Why a camera? How can you protect a camera that is hung from your neck? Are camera straps native to Hawaii? The neck strap is just a commercial for the manufacturer. A sling would be effective for carrying large lenses but not so much with normal, smaller ones. Wrist straps allow the user to keep the camera in a secure position and maneuver with it out of harm's way. But, to carry a camera around one's neck is asking for problems. Why do it? You are aggravating your neck and risking your equipment. Why?

I use an Optech/USA Sling Strap http://optechusa.com/utility-strap-sling.html They have a verity of types and styles. I've heard good things about Cotton Carrier as well.

I have a problem with my right clavicle so I wear an Op-Tech sling over my left shoulder. No problems and no pain carring my 7d for hours.

I use Op Tech slings also, but another option to consider for you might be a belt system. Clip your camera to the belt and carry at your waist.

You'd have to try it out to be sure.

Along with a new carrying strap..... Don't forget the "Advil's" before and after! 😣
