I would suggest two lens
Something in the range of a 70-200 zoom for candid shots
And a 24-105 macro for your other shots
These are conon lens. So anything in that range that fits your camera should work fine
If you have to just choose one then I would go with the 24-105 macro that way you have a little bit of telephoto and macro for close up
Just my thoughts

Thanks.. I am juggling between sub 200 zoom and 50 mm prime.

Don't you have access to EBAY?

yes ebay is there but sony /minolta lens are not that popular.
In New delhi we have lots a place where we get used lens.
Planning to have a field day.

The above sounds good -- you might decrease exposure selectively for the sky.

Also, I can't decide about the bird. To me, it is a bit too much of a distraction to make up for the benefit.

Will try to see what i can do for the exposure bit after removing the bird. I thought the bird added life to an otherwise "poster card" type photo.

Since your location is listed as India, is re-shooting an option?

You may be able to "remove" some of the people by using a 10 stop ND filter and a tripod. The increased exposure time may help make a less-cluttered photograph. I know this: the bird wouldn't be there!

For sure i will remove the bird. But whenever i try to brighten up the taj the sky is becoming whiter too .. I guess i need to dig deeper into lightroom.. as for the 10ND.. let me see if i can beg borrow or steal it before i plan a trip before winters!

In India the 1.4 lens AF lens are very costly ! Juggling between the options of a prime 50 mm 1.8 and sub 200 mm sony lens.

The sony spread is thin here in India..

when you say "candid" I picture either a long focal length black lens shot from a distance or a small lens that is not noticeable.

I would rather be happy with a small unnoticeable lens ( possibly the cheaper of the two) !

You can take both of those with your kit lens I'm guessing; what is the focal range of the kit lens?

its the standard 18-55 mm F3.5 carl zeiss lens. its works great outdoors. But severely lacks low light prowess.

[quote=Heirloom Tomato]If you can change the cherry color in #1, it might look better to shift them away from looking as orange-y as they do now. A more cherry-like red would be better.

#1 I guess the problem is the Yellow lighting.
Thanks for the 2 and #3 will try to fix more in PP.
I am looking for some general tips and tricks for food photography aswell.
