Good capture, try straightening photo, maybe some clarity & decrease exposure, noise reduction & sharpen slightly.
Please post again if you edit so we can see.
What a beautiful scene you captured!

The above sounds good -- you might decrease exposure selectively for the sky.

Also, I can't decide about the bird. To me, it is a bit too much of a distraction to make up for the benefit.

Yes, get the bird out and follow some of the other suggestions.

Increase the contrast of the white building alone to get a brighter white color; add a touch of sharpness

Try darkening blue (i.e. the sky) then de-saturating the whole pic a bit. That should clean up the white of the building. And with a darker sky, a slight overall brightness increase (or maybe just Highlights) might give the building some pop.

The shadows on the towers give away the time this was shot. Noon time sun kills any chance a photograph has.

Since your location is listed as India, is re-shooting an option?

You may be able to "remove" some of the people by using a 10 stop ND filter and a tripod. The increased exposure time may help make a less-cluttered photograph. I know this: the bird wouldn't be there!

For sure i will remove the bird. But whenever i try to brighten up the taj the sky is becoming whiter too .. I guess i need to dig deeper into lightroom.. as for the 10ND.. let me see if i can beg borrow or steal it before i plan a trip before winters!

Will try to see what i can do for the exposure bit after removing the bird. I thought the bird added life to an otherwise "poster card" type photo.

Use the Select tool and outline the Taj area you wish to lighten, then lighten this area to your desire, then deselect the lighten and you are finished :)

Difficult and also subjective. If you have a raw file I think you can save the detail on top of dome - but if your taste is a silky white building - then not a lot of point. My personal taste is sharper - that means the building will not be silky smooth or silky white? Best to shoot this early a.m.?
I've taken the liberty of playing and here is the result. Not so different to yours. Like yours better - with no bird and straightened?

Del's try
