Thanks, pretty much knew that !!
My Dad was Comptroller there in the 50’s...I spent many Saturday’s exploring and watching the process of making linen...only place in the U.S. that did so !!
Thanks
Steve

I use the American Guide Series and places on the National Register of Historic Places to route myself on the motorcycle versus just wandering aimlessly. The mill fit both categories in this case. Also gets me out using the camera. Buildings are so cooperative, they don't move

Most of my photo taking I use the manual mode, RAW only. Most of my photos are taken during the day between 11am to 5pm. I am using the exposure setting for what I measure on the clouds or bright spots in the sky. This makes the exposure of my main subject to be under exposed.

All of my photos are post processed in some manner or form. The areas that are under exposed I seem to be able to bring back with post processing.

Attached 2 photos; One is SOOC the second was processed quickly as an example.

My question is>>>> Am I missing the boat on using the exposure setting from the sky and clouds so they are not over exposed and blown out ???

I do copy and paste a lot. I did not know about turning on the clipboard history though. Thank you for this tip!

Can one copy and paste from previous entries? Also a little know windows feature is you can turn on clipboard history, then windows-v instead of ctrl-v lets you scroll through and pick from previous things you copied with ctrl-c.

I did not know you could do this either. Great info

I started trying out RawTherapee, but I'm not thrilled with it. It's not at all intuitive. I like to look at processing alternatives, and the price was right. I'll play around with it a bit more and then try something else. LR is my go-to processor.

I use RawTherapee exclusively (for at least 2+ years maybe 3) for processing my RAW files initially and then send to Paintshop Pro for further processing. RT integrates very nicely with PSP. Like any processing software: time, patience, reading the on line user manual, and experimentation you become accustom to what it can do. It DOES NOT do layers and selections etc etc > PSP does that.

YMMV

That’s the name of a documentary on Amazon Prime that has some awesome videography.
Not only an interesting story, but a nice way to while away the time.

If you don’t have Prime then disregard.

Thanks for the post

Yes Corel came with the kit, so from the retailer. Will make the change as you suggest. Thanks.

Corel Paintshop Pro is a powerful and versatile processing software and worthwhile learning. Many have suggested using the Nikon Raw processing software which will work quite well. Someone suggested that Corel Paintshop Pro is not a Raw file processing, which I believe is incorrect. I have been using Paintshop Pro for 10+ years. Personally I use RawTherapee for Raw file processing and then further process in PSP. RT and PSP work seamlessly together once you get it set up. RT is free software and can be found at this link >>>http://rawtherapee.com/

Your original post stated Cordel Pro. If Cordel is not a typo for Corel, you can ignore this post

I own 2 D7100's. I set the first camera's 3 digits to D7A and the other to D7B to distinguish between the 2 cameras. I copy a days worth of RAW files to a folder named YYYY MM DD NEF or in today's case 2020 02 16 NEF. When files numbers reset to 0001 they don't interfere with previous numbers that cross over.

For those wondering where to get full and half sheets of mat board, one place is BLICK ( https://www.dickblick.com/ ). I have ordered here multiple times and the matboards have always arrived well protected and absent any defects from shipping.

I order the half boards which measure 20X32 versus the 40X32 standard size. I find them more manageable for my needs.

Interesting - I like the sky more in the JPEG and the house more in the TIFF.

when I posted this up I had a similar thought about the sky. All it takes is bringing the JPG or TIF as a layer and brushing it in. Might give that a shot. The processed one was a quick off for purposes of this post

Hey experts, here's a question you don't see every day - how do I convert a RAW file to a JPEG image with no adjustments whatsoever, zero, zilch, nada, nil. I think all of my "processing apps" do some adjustments when loading a RAW file for processing.

My reasoning is that I wanted to illustrate a "before" and "after" image showing the power of post-processing. I know that RAW images are a bit flat but I need to show that but need to have a useable file in JPEG or similar format.

Many thanks

James

I have skimmed thru the responses and a lot of them are getting pretty technical, however I think you are looking for a general comparison.

I use RawTherapee (a free program) [ http://rawtherapee.com/ ] for doing my processing of RAW files to TIF for further processing. I believe the following might be what you are generally seeking.

The first photo is RT conversion from RAW to TIF. I took off all adjustments in RT to create what is a pretty flat file. I had to save this TIF file to a JPG file to get it to load here.

The second file is RT conversion from RAW to TIF with RT base suggested adjustments

The third file is the second file processed with Paintshop Pro with my personal touches with various post processing tools in Paintshop Pro and other filters for enhancements

Hopefully this helps

I as well been using RT for about the last 4 years. I have not experienced what you are talking about.
