Question for "Raw Therapee" users

I have been using "Raw Therapee" for quite awhile now to edit the DNG files from my Pentax K3 and found it to be adequate for my needs. However, all of a sudden the results from moving any of the sliders takes 8 to 10 seconds to show in the edit window. This used to happen pretty much as I moved the sliders and it is now very frustrating and time consuming to make fine adjustments, due to this delay. It still works, but it takes forever to get through a batch of photos and I have no idea what might have happened to cause this issue. I have tried rebooting, clearing out more memory space, editing smaller batches, even loading one photo at a time, but nothing seems to make much difference in this response time.

Does anyone have an idea what might be going on here or experienced similar issues? I guess my next step is to delete and reload the entire program and if that doesn't work I'm going to have to find another program to edit my photos. By the way, I am still using Windows 7 and this computer has not been connected to the internet for over two years now, so I doubt that it is some sort of virus, etc. In any case, I'd welcome any sort of input short of buying a new computer, as that is out of the question. I'd just like it to go back to the way it worked originally if that's possible. Thanks and good shooting to all!

There are guys at the Pentax Forum who seem to know a lot about 'Raw Therapee'. I would expect one of them to be able to answer your questions.

Sounds like you are running out of memory. Make sure nothing is running in the background, empty your trash can, clear browsing history and delete all unused files, check downloads for old files and unused programs.

Also, computers can start running very slowly if you're getting short of disc space. If you're using Windows, try using Disk Cleanup to get rid of common clutter.

I as well been using RT for about the last 4 years. I have not experienced what you are talking about.

I have cleared an additional 40 GB of disk space, deleted all internet files, ran the disk optimizer and defrag tools, determined that nothing else is running in memory other than RawTherapee, and even cleared the RawTherapee Cache, but no help whatsoever. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program with no changes as well. I guess I'll try posting this question over on the Pentax forum as suggested above, but it's not looking too good at this point. Thanks for your input here and good luck and good shooting to all.

Maybe try copying photos to the desktop before processing them. Could it be a failing card, thats struggling to be read. Just a wild guess.

I always move the images to the partioned "D" drive before processing and never directly from the SD card. However, not a bad idea to try them from another location maybe even directly from the SD card as well. At this point, even a wild guess is worth a try!

I have had a problem like this before and could not find an answer. I finally reformatted the hard drive and reloaded Windows, that did fix the problem buy I had to reinstall all my programs, that took a while but it was better than buying a new computer. I'm not saying this will work but as a last ditch effort you may consider it.

How old & how large is your hard drive? SSDs have dropped in price pretty dramatically and if you're adventurous, a clone & swap to a SSD would probably benefit your system. Get some assistance, if you can, with a cloning operation. Done incorrectly can cause loss of everything on the original drive.
