I just went on safari with my Tamron 18-400... it was enough... could have asked for a farther reach, but the 18mm was enough for wide angle. Don't bother with a tripod/monopod... there won't be room in the vehicle and if the motor is running you'll get vibrations... a beanbag wouldn't be a bad idea, but I can't see a need for it. We did not do early morning/late night game drives... I got some nice sunrise shots hand-held. I also got some beauty shots of Victoria Falls hand-held. Vic Falls (Zimbabwe side) is long and strung out... and you can get pretty wet, so be ready for that. If you want Milky Way shots (or Magellanic Clouds), well that's a different story regarding tripods... To my way of thinking, the Tamron 100-400 is redundent... can you put something else on the second camera body? Good luck and enjoy! I've been on two safaris & can't wait for my third (and fourth)!

I bought a Tamron 150-600 lens from someone on UHH. It stopped working with my cameras (also with cameras at the camera shop). I tried to get it fixed locally (nope), sent it to Tamron... turned out to be a grey market lens & they wouldn't touch it. Does anyone know of a place that will work with grey market lenses?

We went to S.A at the end of August... coolish, spring conditions, as someone said, there were minimal leaves so the animals were visible; also went to Tanzania at the beginning of June: same conditions, animals were visible, and we caught the end of the Great Migration. My first safari I only had a 210 mm reach (it was not enough!!); the second safari I had my 18-400 mm lens, and was satisfied (a longer reach would have been great, but 400 sufficed).
don't miss Cape Town, the beach with the "jackass" penguins (the name escapes me) or the Cape of Good Hope. Caution: Africa gets under your skin... I'm planning my third safari...

Basel DOES NOT turn into squamous cancer.
Please get facts right before posting. Different cancers from different cell types. People might start believing you and your information is wrong

As a nurse, and having had skin cancer before, I can assure you, if you do not take care of basel cell ca, it certainly can turn into squamous cell ca. It can also spread to different parts of your body (doesn't necessarily have to remain on your skin) where there is squamous epithelium.

There are several slot canyons in the Page area, other than Antelope. Having said that, you can still take photos in Antelope, just not with a tripod (guides are very good with helping with photos). Not sure if there are 'photo tours' of other slot canyons. But... since you are in that area, don't miss Horseshoe Bend, head for Kanab, Utah (movie capital of the area), then head to Zion NP, Bryce NP, Capital Reef NP (I believe Kodachrome Basin is in that area), while driving along Rte. 12 (scenic byway), be prepared to stop frequently... its lovely! Drive around to Moab, Utah and see Canyonlands NP, Dead Horse State Park, Arches NP (my favorite), then head south... there is a small park with Natural Bridges, then down to Monument Valley, then east to Cortez and Mesa Verde NP. This is a lot of driving, but these places are a photographer's dream!

If you are going to have skin cancer, basel cell is the one to have (don't let it progress to squamous cell!!!) Have your MOHS procedure, heal well, and continue with your photography.

Look for a "Digital Field Guide to..." whatever your camera is. Amazon should have it... better than an instruction manual.

Take the train to Charte... the cathedral is spectacular. Also, have you been to Cimitere Pere LaChaise? Very interesting & fun to walk around.

A friend & I took a tour of Cornwall & I insisted on visiting Port Isaac (being a huge "Doc Martin" fan). Loved it! An absolutely adorable little town... took the tour, which was worth while (got all the behind the scenes info, while seeing places we might have missed just walking around). I binged watched Doc Martin during the Covid lockdown... wonderful way to spend the time at home... Great pictures... thanks for bringing back memories.
