How much storage do you need?

My experience is a lot! My first hard drive was 40MB and I told myself that’d be plenty of room. Sure was wrong even back then.

Good information all, thanks.

Greetings All,

It’s time to upgrade my laptop so I’ve been shopping around doing doing a lot of research. The newer trend is to include an SSD drive along with the old fashioned hard drive. The HDs are in the terabyte range or more and the SSDs are ~250 gig or so. I’d love an SSD for PP photos, especially when they get larger and cheaper, but the reviews I’ve seen seem to imply that the OS is set up so the SSDs are only for installing programs and the HDs are for storage.

If that’s the case then you could fill up an SSD that size pretty quick, depending on the programs and the number of them you have.

My thought was to install programs on the HD and store photos on the SSD. An external SSD is certainly an option but I travel a fair amount, hence the need of the laptop, and I’d rather not drag a bunch of auxiliary equipment along.

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks

might ask the creator for a release before you alter their work, k?

I didn't think about this and as it turns out this is a violation of our agreement. Thanks for the input all, but please cease and desist.

Forum Moderators, please accept my apology for this post and delete if possible.

Thanks

That's great! How'd you do that, especially where the frame meets the hair?

Greetings All,

Please forgive if this is not the appropriate place for this. My daughter was recently married and the photographer we hired was good but not really exceptional. One example is this photo, it's a great mom and daughter shot but I feel the green frame in the background is too much of a distraction. Since the wall is, more or less, a uniform color I thought it'd be easy to erase it in Photoshop. Turns out the right side is a shade or two darker than the left so I can't use the one color method. I've tried using Fill but I get some odd results with it, even if I edit small amounts of the frame. The Patch tools does a better job but I get a bad marble-y type effect and I don't know how to smooth it out.

My Photoshop skills are very basic so a lot of the underlying attributes/values that go with the tools are a bit beyond me at this point. Anyway, if someone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Intriguing! :-) Actually the bread is a traditional Russian poppyseed sweet bread, often eaten when drinking tea.

The background was what we had that I thought would be a good neutral color. But I see what you mean and I think a solid navy background to offset the white would be better. And a splash of color in the plate too, maybe some sliced oranges?

My wife is Russian and I’ve never seen her put cream in her tea, or anyone in her family for that matter. I think it’s more of an English thing.(?)

But thanks for the comments. The task was to capture a beautiful set mostly for practice and to share but maybe even for display. Not sure about adding some tea but I think I’d agree to not use the cake next time.

Bob, appreciate it but I’ll give it another whirl.

Incindently, my wife says the top of the tea pot is out of focus, seems ok to me though.

Hmmm... seemed a little brighter on my laptop when I posted it. Will look at it again.

Greetings All,

This tea set was a wedding present for my daughter and I wanted to capture it before she took it home. This is the first time I've done a presentation type shot and I'd like to do more. Any and all comments are welcome. Shot on a Canon 50D, 24-105 f4.5, 4.0 sec @ f22 100 ISO.

Thanks in advance.

Good videos, that certainly changes my perspective a bit, if you'll pardon the pun. :-P Thanks everybody for comments, it does bring to mind things I hadn't thought of and I can definitely see advantages to both.

Thanks all. Originally it was a bit darker and although I liked the mood it set I thought it was a bit too moody. Didn't think about resetting the clock! ;-)
